Four of the greatest - M" Men basketball teams tljat Utah stake has ever developed are primed for the stake tournament to be played Thursday and - Saturday nights in the "Y" ladies cym, . commencing at 7:30 o'clock. - . " Champs Plan to Repeat The Provo Fifth ward cagers, extremely ex-tremely strong, are entering the tourney with the determination to take; permanent possession of the Evening Herald . trophy, which is w warded annually to the .m iner of the Utah stake championship. -The team that wins the cup on two occasions oc-casions is awarded t permanently, and the Fifth warders are planning to take it the second 1 time this year, after capturing the championship' champion-ship' last season. The First ward aggregation is enT tering the tournament with the purpose of again bringing back the church championship to their ward. The First warders won this distinction dis-tinction in 1928, but were unable ,to make the grade last year. The Second ward and the Sixth ward are the other two quintets that are entered in the race. Although neither aggregation has ever won the stake championship, the Second warders lost to the Fifth ward by one point, last year and are planning plan-ning for revenge this season. The Sixth warders, with a victory over the Second ward to their credit thi season, are not to be underestimated, underestimat-ed, and will undoubtedly make a commendable fiowinp in the tourney. - The Second warders and the First rard cagers will stage the opening came Thursday evening, with the Fifth and the Sixth ward playing the second contest The two losing ouintets will play for third and fourth positions of the stake in the oneninsr eame Saturday night. Thursday night's victors will battle for first and second positions in the final game Surday. The First ward team enters the contest handicapped by the los3 of their stellar guard; Milt Pitts, who received a leg injury during a practice prac-tice game several weeks ago. As yet no, definite changes in the lineup line-up has been announced, but it is probable that Buttle will be shifted to guard, or Ross Kay assigned to the position- Weight will hold down the other guard post. Larsen will play the pivot position for the First warders, and Humphrey and F. Bown 1 will probably play at. forwards for-wards ' , Second Ward langerous , The Second ward team, coacneu by Mark Bailiff has been going through some stiff workouts for the fracas and is all set to do things in a big way. Pete Olsen and Walt Roberts will start as forwards, Reed Colvln will hold down the center position, and Creer and Harward will be the mainstays on defense. The Fifth ward aggregation boasts of the same lineup that won the championship last year with Bailey and "Lewis at forward, Scott at center and Bown and Phillips playing guard. ' The Sixth ward with Menlove and Peters at forward. Miller at center, cen-ter, and Wlxom and Hansen at guards, presents a formidable lineup, line-up, that win. let-the" Fifth warders know that they have been In a game Thursday. , .
