" o : - -- Rob Behunin discusses the various rooms and open spaces that will be available in the UBATCUSU building under construction on 500 North in Vernal. The building will be enclosed in in two weeks. UBATCUSU building update By Kevin Ashby Express Publisher With winter conditions and colder temperatures coming, crews are racing to enclose the new UBATCUSU Vernal building build-ing at 500 North across from Uintah High School. By enclosing the building, finishing crews can continue to work through the winter preparing for an open house scheduled late spring 2009. Outside walls are mostly up on the classroom structure located in front and the shop and building build-ing trades building in the back. Once completed, there will be 42,000 square feet of classrooms and administration offices in the two-story front building. General-use classrooms are located downstairs with a computer lab and an open area for studying. Ajoint-venture bookstore will be a first between UCAT and higher-ed schools in Utah. The upstairs will include a board room, with an exterior deck, and classrooms for the nursing program now under way. The back building includes areas with large access bays for building build-ing homes as well as servicing large trucks and equipment. The building trades area will have enough room to construct half a house inside. Other large areas accessible by huge bay doors include the diesel-tech-nology area, where students will work on big engines. The well-control-simulator area is the only one of its kind in the Western United States and is already booked for the first three months. There is also a huge welding lab room equipped with a grinding grind-ing shop and overhead-crane service. The driving school area located to the east of the structures struc-tures is also being leveled and paved. And there is more. A Nov. 17 groundbreaking is scheduled for the new Bingham Entrepreneurship and Energy Research Center located to the south of the present structures where the drainage pond was constructed. "The first order of business is to get the retention pond out of our way and begin the campus water feature," says Rob Behunin, Behu-nin, assistant to the USU president presi-dent for special projects. The retention pond services the new UBATCUSUbuildingbutwillbe expanded and moved to service the Bingham building as well. As with many new building projects, USU will attempt to retain and reuse storm water for irrigation and site beautification. It is anticipated that the Bingham Building RFP (Request For Proposals) and Program Document will hit the streets on or about Nov. 5, Behunin says. From, , thereJthe scJheJile.will run until substantial completion' of the project in early "20 ltT And after the Bingham building, build-ing, who knows? "138 acres is a great deal of real estate, and there is more community and educational work to be done, but the site that once hosted lush alfalfa is now sprouting educational facilities," fa-cilities," Behunin says. "I hope people realize that it's not about buildings; it's about providing opportunities to grow people and about growing second- and third-tier third-tier economies in our area." kashbyvernal.com 1:OOPM November m isth Western Park Indoor Arena, SSDDra 00 Q3Tf,S Vcrnal'UT 38 MING BUllS 8 COMING 1W0 YIAROLOS 18 BRED IIFIRS 25 KGISMD BRED COWS RV BAR ANGUS 435-828-1116 Call For Sale Books: (916) 362-2697 or download from: www.jdaonline.com S a A Q ?mi "'Aa ::f it) ( A A"3 nriirrr-ir ,..,..-aiM-...-ii.
