Show A4 Wednesday, April 30, 2008 Vernal Express Obituaries Jack Harrison Ha Kump Nila Bowler i i - - s"7v , James Smarr James Lee "Jim" Smarr, of Russellville, Ark., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Reno, Nev. He was born Feb. 25, 1944 to Oakie Junior and Gladys Irene (Gilcher) Smarr in Massillon, Ohio. Jim entered the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 25, 1962 at Cleveland, Ohio. He faithfully served his country for six years, and was stationed at Beale Air Force Base in California. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense De-fense Service Medal and was one of the first servicemen entrusted to guard the SR 71 Blackbird. Following his military service, Jim worked for many years in the oil field industry. Jim married his best friend and the love of his life, Glenda Fern Rambo on March 6, 1965, at Yuba City, Calif. They were blessed with three children, Jimmy, Machele and Michael. They have six grandchildren, J.J., Alan, Kaylee, Ryan, Aiden and Gregory, who were his pride and joy. Jim was a loving husband, father fa-ther and grandfather, who taught his children and grandchildren the importance of honesty and integrity in all they do and the ethics of hard work. He believed in givinghis best in everything he did. Jim loved horses and enjoyed the outdoors. He worked for TLI Trucking of Russellville as a long haul truck driver for the past six years. He was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Russellville. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Sandra Spahr, his brother-in-law Russ Alexander, and his beloved father-in-law, Joel Rambo. He is survived by wife of 43 Carloyn Anderson Carolyn Timothy Anderson passed away at age 61 April 25, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Carolyn was born Sept. 21, 1946 to Charlie and Reba Maxfield Timothy. She lived in Altonah for a short time. She grew up in Bonanza and Vernal. She graduated from Uintah High and was a graduate from LDS Seminary in 1964. She married Garn R. Anderson Feb. 20, 1970. They were sealed for time and eternity Jan. 5, 1985intheProvo LDS Temple. Carolyn was an active member of the LDS Church, where she serve in many callings, she was the proud mother of five children and their companions, Bruce and Kristin Anderson ofVernal, Jana and Daff Clyde of Hannah, Jill and Keane Sheffield of Vernal, Camie and Trent Tomlinson of Lapoint and Cody and Ali Anderson An-derson ofVernal, along with 16 beautiful grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was a sister to Neil and Helen Maxfield, Rea Timothy, Connie and Vern Wall, Gaila and Duke Holmes, Doug and Deanna Timothy and Phil and Joanne Timothy; father and mother-in-law, Reed and Reva Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Cheree Rasmussen. She had many nieces and nephews she loved also. Garn and Carolyn raised their children in Dutch John; many many memories were made in Dutch John. She Scott Beacham Scott Beacham died April 14 in Orlando, Fla. He was born May 27, 1962 in Vernal and grew up enjoying life with his childhood friends. He graduated from Uintah High School with the class of 1980. Scott worked as a roughneck in the oil field in the Uintah Basin and in Wyoming. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator in Nevada. His dream of owning his own business was realized after he moved to Florida in 200 1 and started Florida Communication. Communica-tion. Funeral service was at 3 p.m., Friday, April 25, at Humphrey Chapel, Russellville, Ark., with the Rev. Eddie Rogers and the Rev. Ricky Kimzey officiating. Her children and grandchildren were her life. She always surrounded herself with them. She loved to work with the students and staff at the schools. Carolyn is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, grandchil-dren, brothers, sisters and mother-in-law. She is preceded in death by son, Cody G. Anderson; parents; father-in-law; brother, Neil Maxfield; sister, Rea Timothy; brother-in-law, Vern Wall; and nephew, Stephen Timothy. Funeral services were Tuesday, Tues-day, April 29, in the Ashley Stake Center. He was born Feb. 9, 1931 in Vernal to William Duke Harrison and Flora Mammie Harrison. He married Thelma Harrison on Feb. 8, 1969 in Oroville, Calif., and later she past away on Sept. 15, 1987. Jack raised two sons, Jack (Rebecca) Harrison Jr. and Harold Harrison both of Vernal. Jack lived in Vernal all of his life, where he was loved by everyone. ev-eryone. He is going to be missed. Dad we love and miss you but our angles will be with you. Uintah Lona Smith Lona D "Cookie" Smith, age 95, passed away at the Uintah Care Center on April 24. Cookie was born in Macon County, N.C., on Nov. 12, 1921 to Ervin Asna Huggins and Eliza Jane Wishon, Huggins. Cookie had three brothers broth-ers and sister. Pearlie Florence, Hatti, Chloe Hester, Ernest, Carl Ervin and Joseph Forest Huggins all preceded her in death. Cookie also had two grandsons precede her: Grant La Von Ralphs and Cordell J. Bowen. Cookie had three children born in union with Alex R. Fouts: Joretta "Jo" Butterfield of South Jordan, Alex "Butch" Fouts, (Shorty) of Myton and Rosalind Ralphs (Blaine) ofVernal. Cookie had 12 living grandchildren, grand-children, 30 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Cookie met Grant M. Smith and married him on Nov. 24, 1961, in Evanston, Wyo. He preceded her on Feb. 6, 2003. Cookie loved heaving flowers in her yard and planting a big garden. Nobody ever went way from her home hungry. Cookie always had a dog, as she loved animals. Cookie will be missed by all who loved her. The family thanks the Uintah Uin-tah Care Center staff for all the loving care she received while there. Wow! She was born Nov. 8, 1928 in Lapoint to Adrian Reynolds Kump and Orpha Elvira Bigelow. Ila was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed growing up in Lapoint. She attended Alterra High School where she met Bert Lewis Angus. They graduated in 1947 and were married June 16, 1948intheSalt Lake LDS Temple. She was a member of a study group and a women's service group. She was a counselor in the Relief Society and Primary presidency. She served as the junior Sunday school coordinator and served with her husband in the Church Employment Mission. Mis-sion. Ila taught various classes, was a visiting teacher and loved to do compassionate service. Ila was first and foremost a lady of the highest degree. She was meticulous in manner and spirit. Shewasashiningexample of gentleness, selflessness and kindness. Always eager and willing to do whatever acts of kindness she could, her sweet spirit will always be a part of our lives. She always had a song in her heart. Her family was her delight in life and she always looked forward for-ward to visits from her grandchildren grandchil-dren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her family, but we know she is happy being reunited with her loving husband and parents. Funeral services for Ila were Friday, April 25, at 3 p.m. in the Ashley Stake Center. She was born Sept. 6, 1943 in Jensen to Orval and Iola Curfew Dudley. She graduated from Uintah High School. After graduating she married Myron Hughes and had two children, Randy and Dannette. They were later divorced. She then married John Bowler and had Kevin along with many foster children including Rachel and Stanley McCook. Nina was a devoted mom and grandma. She worked at the Uintah County Preschool and Basin Nursery for many years. She earned a master in gardening which she loved and also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a Northwestern States Mission. She spent the last few years working at the USU Extension Exten-sion office. She taught 4-H classes and took lots of foster kids. She also started the gardening program pro-gram at Thompson School in Roosevelt.
