Good Shepherd Acquires Applegate m or ins ti Matter is two-year-old neutered yellow lab at Uintah Animal Shelter who has a microchip, is houscbroken, loves water, is good with kids and has completed basic obedience training. Matter has a 1 distinguished pedigree, his sire is the Roosevelt drug enforcement dog. Matter needs a fenced yard with plenty of room and a high energy companion. Good Shepard Homecare and Hospice has reached an agreement with Applegate HomeCare & Hospice to acquire Applegate's Vernal branch at 266 W. 100 N. effective Sept.1. Applegate has provided home health and hospice services to communities in Duchesne, Uintah, and Daggett counties for twelve years. When asked why Applegate made this decision, Brent Jones, Applegate CEO, said "After many years of servingthe good people of eastern Utah, we have decided to allow another reputable service provider (Good Shepherd) to assume our operations here so that we can better focus our attention on other vital interests in our company. We are very pleased that Good Shepherd has agreed to acquire our Vernal branch, and are sure the residents of Vernal and surrounding areas will be well served by them. We are deeply appreciative of the community support we have enjoyed over the years, and for the excellent service provided by our staff at this branch". Good Shepherd has branch operations in the Salt Lake City and the VernalRoosevelt areas, and is very excited about this opportunity. Two of Good Shepherd's executives, Farley Sowards, Vice President of Operations and Kelly Anderson, Vice President of Administration were born and raised in Vernal and both graduated from Uintah High School. Sowards is excited about this acquisition and states, "It feels great to be back amongst the good people of Vernal. Applegate has assembled a great team in the Uintah Basin and we consider it a privilege to add them to the Good Shepherd family." For several years Good Shepherd's quality of care was demonstrated by it having the lowest hospital readmission rate of any home care agency in the State. This statistic ranked it in the top one percent in the nation. Patients who are receiving care from Applegate in most cases will continue to see the same team of nurses, aids and therapists. . Anderson states, "What a great opportunity it is for me to help merge these two great companies together. I have truly missed my community friends and Applegate team over the last few years and I look forward to workingwith them again." With a continued focus on serving the needs of the Uintah Basin, Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice will continue the tradition of offering flu shots for the community during the upcoming fall season.
