What are you doing next week? Going to the Stock Show! BY ElPABfTH &MWF Express Writer It is a good guess that the 4-H and FFA youth are with their show animals at the moment this is being read -- at any time day or night. Each youngster who has entries in the livestock show is grooming, feeding, preparing them for a good performance or just loving them. The Junior Livestock Show opens with weigh-in next Monday morning, June 4, and finishes when the last animal is sold on Thursday, June 7. Every resident in Uintah County has something to get ready for too. Newcomers will be amazed by the "big show" this Livestock Show is. They can come to look, to watch, to cheer, to plan, and they can come to buy. The auction on Thursday will be lively with bidding to help these 4-Hers and FFA students realize their business venture and make it a success. Entries come to the Uintah County Junior Livestock Show from many other counties in Utah. All age groups are very competitive, and throughout the week they have opportunities for various kinds of judging. It is a learning opportunity for every person who walks into Western Park, and the youth and their parents are the winners, regardless regard-less of the place they take. Avast amount of time, money and effort goes into the days they are raised, prepared, shown, judged and auctioned. And with the sigh of relief that it is over, or the shout of rejoicing, comes the realization that this animal may no longer be in the pen at home. So they look to the future - next year's show will begin soon, with the selection of the new show animals. And that is what the youth in these photos taken in 2006 were getting ready to do: plan for 2007. It is now upon them. The Junior Livestock Show Committee members would urge everyone, "Come to the Junior Livestock Show - come many times - and support the young people with your thoughts, words, and auction bid." v 4 1 l v v V Jack Pipher and his pig created a strong bond, just as most of : the youth do during the year of preparation for the show. 2006 : photo i: fi7 Maeser spelling bee winners In a recent spelling bee for Maeser fifth graders, these three were the top spellers of the day: first, Paige Holmes; second, Spencer Seitz; third, Andrew Holmes.
