Oktoberfest hits Vernal It is once again time for this year's Oktoberfest celebration, celebra-tion, organized by St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Held this Saturday, the festival will allow everyone who attends to sample the feel (and food) of the traditional tradi-tional German party. The celebration cel-ebration will be held from 4:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the church, 226 W. Main. Parking is available avail-able at True Value Hardware or on the street by the church. Like most Oktoberfest (which people around the world celebrate in September), there will be lots of food and entertainment, enter-tainment, but the proceeds from the Episcopal church's efforts in Vernal always go to support charity. Reverend Nina Stasser said, "We really thank the community for the support we receive every year." Last year proceeds went to help the hurricane relief efforts in the Gulf states. This year, proceeds will go to the scholarship schol-arship program at the Uintah School of Music and the Arts (USOMATA) to help with then-Carnegie then-Carnegie Hall trip next spring. The Vernal event typically sees about 300 people pass through. "This is really a family event," said Stasser. "There will be music and entertainment the whole time, and lots of food." The food is typical German fare like brats, sauerkraut, German cake, and German potato salad among some of the choices. Like most other Oktoberfest celebrations, there will also be beer sampling. The event also has items to be raffled. This is the fourth year the celebration has been WHY DO YOU WANTTO RE-ESTABLISH RE-ESTABLISH YOUR CREDIT? Everyone at sometime can have an unexpected problem damage their credit. And getting overwhelmed can force you into bankruptcy. Don't worry, part of getting your life back to normal is repairing your credit. Some people think that time can repair your credit. This is not true. Many banks and lenders will not approve someone that has not re-established with an auto loan. The sooner you start showing a good payment history the sooner you will get back to normal. Judy Kurtz, one of the event organizers said, "We are thrilled it is becoming an event that people are looking forward to each year. We've been planning plan-ning since early summer and everything is ready." Stasser stressed, "This really real-ly is a community wide event. Our goal is to outreach to the whole community."Kurtz agreed, "One of the best things about it is that we see people from every faith there and we get support from every group in the communityTickets can be purchased at the door. Adults are $10, children 5-12 are $5, and children 4 and under are free. Fun fall activities for children Autumn is a great time to teach children about leaves. Leaves are all around us. Take your children on a walk and see how many different colors and shapes of leaves you can find. There are different activities you can do with leaves. Make a leaf collage by cutting out different dif-ferent leaf shapes out of fall colors col-ors and have the children glue the shapes onto another piece of paper. Make leaf rubbings by having hav-ing the child place a leaf under a piece of paper, and rub the paper with crayon, and the leaf shape will appear. This works much better with green leaves. Trace your child's hand onto a fall color of construction paper, and cut it out to make it look like a maple leaf. Let your child paint, using leaves as paint brushes. Have your child glue a leaf on a piece of paper, and draw legs, arms, and a head to create a person. Make a mobile by attaching leaves to a hanger with different differ-ent lengths of string. Let your child help you rake leaves into a pile, and then allow himher to jump in the leaves. |
