Show Ute hockey faces Skyline .Vernal Express. When Skyline High School was scheduled at the last minute min-ute to come to Vernal to play games after Cottonwood cancelled, can-celled, the Ute hockey team anticipated some hotly challenged chal-lenged contests. Skyline is one of the largest schools in the state and was reputed to have one of the better hockey teams on the Wasatch Front. Unfortunately, most of the varsity players did not travel to Vernal and the contests did not live up to expectations, although they did provide some fun hockey to watch on the part of the Utes. Most of the action in both games took place in Skyline's end of the ice. The Eagles never seemed to be able to make much of an offensive showing and the Utes dominated almost from the drop of the first puck. In the first game, the Utes' Tappan Brown scored first, scoring at the 7:22 mark with the assist coming from Josh Kitzmiller. Twenty seconds later, defenseman J.J. Redden, scored the Utes' second goal, assisted by Brown. Less than one minute later, Center Jeff Conley scored the third goal of the period on a feed from Chase Cloward. The Eagles scored their only goal near the end of the first period, leaving the score 3-1 in favor of the Utes. The Utes outshot their opponents oppo-nents 13 to 2 for the period. The Utes continued their dominance in the second period as Josh Kitzmiller scored at the 8:21 mark, assisted by Redden. Conley scored his second goal of the game with .56 left to go in the period after receiving the pass from Bo Harris. In the third period the referee ref-eree got a little tougher on the Utes, calling a total of 5 penalties penal-ties on Uintah. Despite many opportunities on power plays, the Eagles were still unable to score. In fact they only registered regis-tered one shot on goal in the period. The Utes on the other hand, racked up three more goals. The first goal came with GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER? With the National Forest next door, you never know who will show up for dinner. The final Ute goal was scored twelve seconds later on a flurry in front of the net with Landon Larsen making the goal following passes from Brown and Harris. Final score: Utes 8, Eagles 1. The second game was a continuation con-tinuation of the first. The Utes made several personnel and position changes, allowing more players more opportunities opportu-nities but it didn't slow their game. Redden scored the first goal at the 10:25 mark on a shot from point that rocketed by the goalie. Two minutes later Cloward scored again with assists from Nick Mull and Brown to put the Utes up 2-0 at the end of the period. Uintah scored three goals again in the second period. The first with 9:23 to go by Tyler Larsen, assisted by Conley. The second came at the 7:19 mark and was scored by Conley, assisted by Cloward. Drew Long scored the final goal of the period at the 2:25 mark, assisted by Alex Shields. Two more goals were scored by the Utes in the third period. peri-od.
