X-High Riders club donates to Vernal's DARE program The Vernal X-High Riders Motorcycle Club had its second annual poker run April 16. The poker run consists of a number of stops at which point each rider collects one playing card. At the end of the run the poker hands are compared and the rider with the best hand wins a cash prize. Wednesday, May 25, X-High Rider members Ray Reece, Rick Green, Everett Wilcken and Elisa Wilcken donated the $561 check to DARE Officer Holly Dick of the Vernal City Police Department. "This is such a great fund-raiser for the DARE program," said Holly Dick. "We educate the entire sixth grade of the Uintah Basin and we rely almost entirely on donations from the community and any help is well appreciated." Over 60 riders participated in the April poker run and the turnout looks to be just as good for next year's run. The 2005 rider with the best poker hand was Kamille Oviatt Oviatt receives Young Womanhood recognition Kamille Oviatt, daughter Kent and Chris Oviatt received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award from Glines 3rd Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kamille was part of the 2005 graduating class from Uintah High School. Her interests and talents include artwork and sports. Among Kamille's many projects, proj-ects, she prepared and organized orga-nized an art gallery, wherein she displayed a wide variety of her own work. She helped make quilts for humanitarian aid, and has also set and achieved many personal goals. The Arrow of Light is the Cub Scouts highest award. His den leader was Coleen Jones and KC Hutt. He has advanced from Cub Scouts and has joined Boy Scout Troop 890. Kimberly Billings Kimberly Billings nominated for Who's Who Kimberly Billings, daughter of Terry and Estella Billings, has expected the nomination for Who's Who Among American High School Students. Kimberly is 16 years old and has worked very hard in school to be the best she can be. She is a member of the LDS Church, has received several awards in art and is doing her best to be able to go to college and become an architect. She loves building many things and has designed several cabinets in her home while taking tak-ing multiple classes in woods. Mr. Tom Murray inspired her to make bigger and better things and to do her best. Mr. Robert Hannah inspired her through many different events and she will likely carry his teachings throughout her life. Kimberly was born and raised in Vernal but later moved to Dinosaur, Colo, and attends high school in Rangely. y |
