Trenedy Pope Class helps parents teach Parents who would like to know more ways to become a child's first teacher are invited to attend a Parents As Teachers (PAT) Training Jan. 13 in the Uintah School district Office Conference room. The 1-3:30 p.m. class will be held on the second floor and light refreshments refresh-ments will be served. The PAT Training is being sponsored by the Even Start Program, the Literacy Commission, Utah Parent Teachers Association and the Utah Family Center. He was found by Uintah County Animal Control Officer Rick Bell. He was wearing an orange collar with bits of red binder twine on it. He is friendly, well trained and hoping to go home. The animal shelter has a 30-day, no fee fostering program which will help adopting families determine if they wish to keep the pet permanently. Donation of money and pet food are always welcome. He is a graduate of Uintah High School and served two years in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission. He is currently employed with Wal-Mart. The couple plan to make their home in Vernal. Jared Massey were married Dec. 31. A reception will be held in their honor Saturday, Jan. 15 at the West Stake Center in Roosevelt, on Skyline Drive (next to Constitution Park), from 7 to 9 p.m. The bride is the daughter of Blaine and Lezlee Whiting of Roosevelt. She graduated from Union High in 2004 and is a junior at Brigham Young versity. Jared Todd Massey is the son of Todd and Carol Massey of Vernal. Jared graduated from Uintah High in 1998 and will graduate from the University of Utah in April with a bachelor's degree in history and political politi-cal science. He served an LDS Mission to Warsaw, Poland. The couple will make their home in Provo. Christensen wins Vernal Middle School Geography Bee It took 35 minutes for Carsten Christensen to emerge victorious as the winner of the 2005 Vernal Middle School (VMS) National Geographic Geography Bee. Jaden Claysqn emerged in second place and Chris Stewart placed third in the VMS . Contest. Con-test. ' In evaluating the competition, competi-tion, Christensen, Clayson and Stewart all said they were surprised that their studies of world geography weren't tested in this year's questions. The majority of questions were pertinent per-tinent to the continental United States. Contestants faced such questions ques-tions as which state was home to Crater Lake, the name of the only Great Lake in the United States, which state is home to the scenic Puget Sound and which state's concentrated conservation con-servation efforts were bringing wildlife back into sections of the Everglades. With his knowledge of American geography, Christensen became eligible to take the state test which will determine whether or not he will be one of the 100 top students stu-dents invited to participate in the state competition. In addition to the three top placements, those qualifying to participate in last Thursday's geography bee at the VMS were Jordan Clark, Nick Migliori, Jordan Evans, Garrett First place winner of the Vernal Middle School geography bee Carsten Christensen, left, is joined by second place winner Jaden Clayson and Chris Stewart who placed third.
