PUBLIC NOTICE REQUEST FOR COMMENTS USDA FOREST SERVICE-ASHLEY NATIONAL FOREST FLAMING GORGE RANGER DISTRICT DAGGETT COUNTY, UTAH JARVIES CANYON BOATING CAMPGROUND RECONSTRUCTION The Flaming Gorge Ranger District is proposing propos-ing the reconstruction of Jarvies Canyon Boating Campground located along the Flaming Gorge Reservoir and within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. The purpose pur-pose of this project is to enhance a popular recreation recre-ation site. The facilities are in poor conditoin and the pit toilet does not meet health and safety standards. The proposal includes: replacement of an existing pit toilet with a new two-unit composting compost-ing toilet; replcement of camp facilities such as tables with cabanas, fire Ute Tribe attends California meeting The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) held their 56th Annual Convention in Palm Springs, Calif., from Oct. 3 -8, 1999. Several members of the Ute Indian Tribe and approximately 2,000 Native Americans were registered regis-tered for the Convention in sunny southern California. Representatives from Canada's First Assembly of Nations (AFN) were guests at the convention. The Canadian National Chief of AFN was to have spoken at the Convention but due to a lobster harvest har-vest dispute that was turning ugly between the non-Indians and the First Nations of Canada, had to suddenly sud-denly return back to Canada. In his place, four representatives from the AFN spoke briefly to the Convention. They, too, had to return to Canada because of the lobster lob-ster dispute. Among the exhibition booths participants par-ticipants were Ute Tribal members, former Ute Tribal Councilman Larry Blackhair and his assistant tribal member Kandra Amboh. Blackhair had his Native American 2002 Foundation information booth on display at the convention. Speakers at a Sunday reception included California Congress-woman Congress-woman Mary Bono, former wife of Congressman Sonny Bono, and Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth. "We bring more than dependable power to our customers. We also invest in projects that improve and strengthen the communities we serve," said Keith McKennon, PacifiCorp chairman and chief executive officer, and member of the foundation board., The foundation made 35 grants ranging from $ 1 ,000 to $50,000 for civic and community improvements improve-ments directed at enhancing recreation, recre-ation, safety and the environment. Some of the projects funded include restoring historical sites, sponsoring safety fairs, enhancing city parks, renewing wetlands and funding libraries.
