It could only mean one thing. They had celebrated yet another an-other "Bob Day." Although no one in the Stevens family is named Bob, still they gather and pay homage to the name. They watch the movie, "What about Bob?", bob for apples, grill shish-ka-bobs, go fishing with bobbers, and do other activities related, no matter how remotely, to Bob. Family traditions, such as the Stevens' "Bob Day", offer opportunities opportu-nities to have fun, create memories, share love and build strong bonds between family members. And traditions tra-ditions needn't be elaborate. When it came time to dismantle our bed and load it onto the moving truck, there, between the mattress and box spring, was a small yellow package of fish bouillon. How did it get there? Simple. My mother did it. On our first shopping trip after getting married, my husband and I were wandering down the soup aisle when he spotted a package of fish bouillon. "Fish bouillon. Ugh! Who would ever use fish bouillon?" No one that we knew. But we bought it anyway, wrapped it, and gave it to my mother as a gag gift for Christmas. Within days it found its way into my school bag. The next time I was at Mom's, I slipped it in among her cassette tapes. A month later it turned up in my closet clos-et Back and forth the fish bouillon goes. Hidden in Mom's glove box. Slashed under Amanda's car seat. Like an extended game of tag. I never know when it will turn up. Here are some ideas: A monthly date with your kids. Each month on your child's birthday birth-day number, take them on a date. Go out to dinner, to the park, or for i treat If it's not possible to take them out make them feel special at home. Cook their favorite dinner. Play their favorite game. Tell them why you think they're great Turkey for the baby. Whenever a baby is bom to a close friend or family member, buy a frozen turkey the same size as the baby's birth weight Give it frozen or. better yet have it dressed and ready for when the new mother gets home from the hospital. Eat dessert first Whenever Mom makes her signature dessert (at our house it's raspberry pie), eat it before be-fore dinner. Repeat the phrase, "Life is short Eat dessert first" Hold a house party. Every year on the anniversary of the day you moved into your home, throw the house a birthday party. Clean it up, fix anything broken, and buy something some-thing special to help make and keep it lovely. What are some ways you celebrate cele-brate as a family?
