Freston, derived from the proceeds of a garden show held this last July. Annette M. Freston is the daughter daugh-ter of Carl and Shirley Oldaker, and a native of Vernal. She attended Uintah High School and was active in student government as well as serving as the FBLA President. She attended Ricks College for one year and received an associates degree from BYU in 1983. Her goal is to get a masters degree in business. Freston has worked for several large law firms as well as oil companies com-panies during the last 20 years. In addition, she has taught piano lessons since 1989 and also enjoys tole painting, gourmet cooking and her two children, Jennifer and Steven. "I appreciate your words of encouragement," en-couragement," said Freston. "This scholarship moves me one step closer to my educational goals." From the trenches by Christie A. Hansen When does life slow down? How, I ask you, am I supposed to paint cupboards, unpack boxes, write a column, referee Jared and Amanda's sibling battles, keep my baby happy and myself too? I consider con-sider it a treat to take an uninterrupted uninterrupt-ed shower-even if it is during Natalie's afternoon nap. When does life slow down? When I was in college, I dreamed of carefree care-free evenings without homework and term papers. "Surely," I thought, "I'll have more free time when I'm done with school." What was I thinking? I lived at home. Mom cooked my meals, paid the bills and cleaned the house. I helped out with a few things, but, looking back, they didn't amount to much. Now it's my turn to cook the meals, pay the bills and clean the house. And actually, I haven't been doing much cleaning. When Amanda wants me to read her a bock, it's hard to say, "Sorry, Dear. I need to clean toilets." Good thing she likes to help with the laundry, or it might not get done either. Then there's my husband. I hardly see him. Alone, that is. Once the kids are tucked into bed, we part ways. Off he goes to hang cabinet doors or study for the heavy-duty professional test he'll be taking next month. I keep busy sorting through boxes or tackling must-do cleaning projects. It's been over five months If you have any Society News or Feature Story ideas Call Carol Jewart at the Express 789-3511 Gales Office Supply Garden Gate Floral Uintah County Library DUP Museum Or By Calling Janet Wallis at 789-1822 Thank you For L , - Asher McKee McKee receives Eagle Scout Asher McKee, 13 of Tridell, son of Darwin and Merrilli McKee, will receive the Eagle Scout Award on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Asher planted shade trees in the Tridell Community Park for his project last spring. He has earned 33 merit badges. McKee worked in Bryce Canyon this past summer at the B-Bar-D Ranch and Chuck Wagon. He has performed in the Uintah Basin Fiddle Fair two years running and was concert master last year in Ora Faye Oviatt's Christmas Orchestra. Now attending the 8th grade at Vernal Junior High, he loves metals and woods. He enjoys spending time with his friends and is looking forward to Junior Jazz. His future plans include a mission for the LDS Church and eventually entering the medical profession. since we've had a 'real' date. I'd feel sorry for myself, but I know that I'm not the only parent pulled in so many different directions. .1 talk with friends and neighbors who are swamped, too. Where, we wonder, won-der, does the time go? Time. It keeps coming back to time. Why does it seem like some people peo-ple have . more time than others? We're all given the same amount. Why is it that it never seems to be enough? As a parent, it's difficult to find a balance between time spent with family and time spent on household responsibilities-including work. That's what I'm struggling with. And I'm finding that it helps to stop. Think. Evaluate what is and is not important. Ask what will matter in the long run. Should I have saved the cupboard painting until after we were fully moved in? v Yes. Could I get up an hour earlier to work on the computer? I think so. And about the cleaning chores, is it possible to .recruit help from the kids? We'll see. How do you balance your time budget? Do you have any secrets for finding more time for family? Share them by writing to Christie Hansen by e-mail at christiehansenusa.net or care of this publication. B6E your Support! - .
