This year, the flights went to the Jensen Bridge then turned and sailed to Macedona, Colorado then turned and set down at the landing zone established at the state line. The Lady Utes began the week at home and dropped their first game against Park City on Sept 7. Suffering a 3 - 0 shut out, the Lady Utes took their 1 - 4 record on the road Thursday, Sept 9 to defeat Wasatch 1 - 0. Against Park City, the Lady Utes fought a strong opening half and held Park City to one' goal. While the Lady Miners were persistent in keeping the ball on the Uintah end of the field, the Lady Ute defense held their ground and entered half-time half-time down 0-1. Park City opened the second period peri-od with possession but the Lady Utes were ready for the challenge. The Uintah offense opened strong and made many assaults on the Park City goal but fell short of scoring. The Lady Miners finally began turning the momentum back in their favor and put Lady Ute goalkeeper Andrea Walker to work. By midway mid-way in the second period. Walker had defended 6 sharply kicked shots on the goal by Park City. While 2 of the 6 sailed high over the net Walker's talents kept the Lady Utes from disaster as she smothered the other 4. Finally, Park City scored their second point "built from a comer kick. The kick was a direct line-drive line-drive dan into the crowded area in front of the Uintah goal. A Park City player connected with the shot and bumped the ball into the net beyond Walker's reach. The Lady Utes dropped to a 2-point deficit Uintah began faltering and Park City capitalized by scoring their third shot in the waning minutes of play. The final goal pulled the shroud over the Lady Utes and sealed the 3 - 0 shut out. Oil Thursday in Heber, the Lady Utes and Wasps scrapped through a close ball game. The only score came midway through the second period and was set up on an assist from Hillary Enloe. Heather Calder picked up the pass, kicked the goal and gave Uintah the win. The Lady Utes take the field again on Sept 21 when they host Lehi. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the field south of Vernal Junior High School. r J" V W Mi. The limited numbers of buck pronghorn permits that are available in the Uintah Basin provide a unique hunting opportunity for hunters for--runate enough to draw one. Steven Buhler of Vernal participated partici-pated in his first pronghorn hunt and had his animal early. He hunted the East Bench unit of the North Book Cliffs with his dad Paul and a friend Val Mortenson. Steven harvested har-vested his antelope after stocking it for approximately one-half mile . and took his shot from about 250 yards. The 16-year old and his partners part-ners were on their way back to Vernal to finish dressing and caring for the meat Another group of hunters also hunting on the East Bench unit found early success on Saturday. Marcyne Street of Springville and her brother-in-law Reed Lowe drew permits together and were camped with Street's husband Paul and their two children Halisa and Mitchell. Street had taken her animal and had it dressed and cared for back in camp by 9:00 in the morning. Lowe was preparing to go back out for his hunt and was eager to get started. He said that he had an archery antelope ante-lope permit for the same unit in 1993. Wliile he said that he had enjoyed his bow hunt luck had not been w ith him that year. Street said that she and her husband hus-band had been lucky in the drawing lately. They both had hunted for trophy buck deer on the Paunsaguant unit last year and each took nice animals. She was also happy with her pronghom and smiled as her husband and brother- ' in-law described her 200-yard stalk. $ They said that they had seen several antelope that morning and had watched the buck she harvested for 10 minutes before she decided it was the one she wanted to go after. Halisa, Marcyne's 4-year old daughter was a little unsure about getting close to the antelope again to have a group picture taken. Slow to get into position after being coaxed by her parents, Halisa said, "it smelled." Her 8-year old brother, broth-er, Mitchell, didn't appear to share her reluctance. On the Halfway Hollow hunting unit, a hunter and his father from Bishop, California were dressing their antelope by 8:00 a.m. They planned to start their return trip as soon as they had their animal ready to go. On behalf of Uintah School District, we would like to appeal to the public for help in solving a problem that took place over the weekend. As the final coat of red rubber was in place and drying on the new track an individual on a bicycle rode out onto the track and caused damage. dam-age. The red from the track will still be coated to the tires. We would like to resolve this inside, however if we dont learn the name of the party who did this we are going to turn it over to the authorities for prosecution.
