Show Sheep Creek cave access requires permit Dave Bull, Flaming Gorge District ranger, Oct 4 announced a change in the management of Sheep Creek cave by reconstructing the gate at the cave entrance to allow al-low for unrestricted bat access and to manage recreational access to the cave. Access will be allowed by permit only from April 1 through Sept 30. Permits will be available at the Flaming Gorge District office in Manila. The cave will be closed to recreational use from Oct. 1 through March 31 during sensitive bat use periods. An interpretive program (signs, brochures and guided tours) to increase public awareness of bat and cave ecology will also be initiated. The purpose of and need for this management is to protect Townsend's big-eared bats during sensitive use periods (Oct. 1 through March 31), achieve the objective ob-jective of the Federal Cave Resources Protection Act of 1988, minimize vandalism by managing human access, and to increase public pub-lic awareness of bat and cave ecology, ecol-ogy, said Bull. These measures will be monitored annually to determine their effectiveness. Further recreational access may be more or less restricted depending on the monitoring results. Public involvement in-volvement will be key prior to changing the recreational access noted in this decision. For a copy of the decision memo or additional information contact Steve Blatt, wildlife biologist, of the Flaming Gorge Ranger District at P.O. Box 265, Manila, UT or phone (801)784-3445. People often turn to the Internet for information they cannot find anywhere else. The World Wide Web is a global, glob-al, loosely organized collection of information. Using a mouse and icons on their computer screens, viewers of web pages can "point and click" their way around. Repeat after me: The Web is part of the Internet, but there are still parts of the Internet that are not on the Web. Seekers look for something specific specif-ic while surfers look for anything that strikes their fancy. There are two ways to be on the Web as a user and as a publisher, pub-lisher, one who creates sites and provides information. To explore the Web, you need an Internet connection, which is a combination combina-tion of hardware and software, and a Web browser, which allows you to view Web pages. The simplest way to connect with the Internet is through a direct network connection. The advantage to this is that it's ten times faster than the highest speed modem. Perhaps the second most-popular connection option is the dial-up dial-up account which uses a modem to call an Internet server and provides pro-vides unlimited access for a monthly fee, usually less than $50. The downside to dial-up connections con-nections is that they are slower than the direct connections.
