Meacham, students and IGA for a free night of entertainment in the Vernal IGA parking lot beginning at 730 p.m. Bring lawn chairs. There will be prize drawings and many local singers of all ages and styles. August 31 The Manila Yachting club will hold its Parade of lights on the Flaming Gorge Reservoir just after dark. This has been an annual event, with many people viewing the spectacular scene, September 2 No school will be held in the Uintah, Daggett and Duchesne county school districts in observance of Labor Day. September 2 The first Outlaw Trail Mountain Bike Sampler will begin at 8 a.m. in the IGA parking tot.: Rides wilt be geared to riders of different skill levels, beginner (2-3 hours); intermediate 3-4 hours); and advanced (4-6 hours). Guides will be experienced local riders with basic bicycle repair and first aid skills. Riders will be expected to provide a bicycle (in good working order), snacks, water and appropriate clothing including helmets. The Jensen park committee will be hosting a barbecue at 6 p.m, at the Jensen community park, west of the Jensen LDS Chapel. The cost of the meal will be $15 for a family, $3 per person or $1.50 for children under 6. The funds will be used to upgrade the facilities at the park. Bring a potluck dish. In conjunction with the barbecue, Camp Escalante, DUP will dedicate Bell Monument, in honor of the Jensen school Dedication ceremonies will begin at 7:30 p.m. September 11 The Uintah Community Council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the County Commission Conference Room in the State and County building. September 14 A reunion for all those w"ho grew' up or have lived in the Old Ashley Ward will be held at the old Ashley Chapel, (the Glade Calder home, 500 East 2000 North). The gathering will begin at 3 p.m. and will include visiting, a potluck dinner and a program. RICHARD TOLLEY swears in new Uintah District School Board member, Candee Lamb of Lapoint, who was appointed by the board to fill the remaining term of Blayne Morrill, recently deceased. de-ceased. Lamb appointed to school board Candee Lamb of Lapoint, was appointed ap-pointed to the school board to replace re-place Blayne Morrill who passed away on July 30. Lamb will serve for the remainder of Morrill's term which is approximately one and a half years. Eight people were considered for the position. Arthur McKee, Rondal McKee, Michael McKee, David M Oaks, Jonas Grant, Shar Lynn Benson, Candee Lamb and Gene Harvey. Each candidate sent in a letter of consideration and presented present-ed themselves to the board members mem-bers on August 20, at the board meeting. "I was impressed with the amount of interest shown for this position," said board president, Ed Oscarson. The board met in an executive session and held a secret ballot We unanimously voted for four different differ-ent people," said Oscarson. After the secret ballot they openly discussed dis-cussed the candidates and presented their decision. Lamb told the board in her presentation pre-sentation that she would like to be involved with the programs and projects that will affect her seven children as well as other children.
