Jumoine out to a 13-5 first quarter lead, the Lady Utes never looked back. . In the second period, Uintah maintained their lead while the bench was putting major minutes in on the floor. Jessica Wade and Cammy Collett in particular played above and beyond the call of duty, to keep the Utcs ahead 29-18. Wade, who Coach Frank Barker said played her best game of the year, was everywhere as she caused several turnovers in Coach Barker's "scrambler defense" and put the clamps on Lehi's shooting guard while Collett, the transfer from Union, was tough on both ends of the court. For the regulars, steady Carissa Barker led all scorers with 13 while. Julene Harvey scored 12, 10 of those coming in the second half. Linda Emmctt also had 12 and totally total-ly controlled the paint : Monique Reidhead is beginning to play up to her abilities according to Coach Barker. "We have been waiting wait-ing for Monique to break out and tonight she did." "She handled their ' r '' ':1 I i ; BODIES FLY after loose ball. Action is swift and furious in game. : Ci ' t . The Utcs led 45-35 after 3 and coasted home for the road victory 61-52. The win moves the Utcs into a second place tie with Lehi and they still have games with league co-leaders Carbon and Emery. When you have two immovable objects facing each other, something has to give sometime, but it is anybody's any-body's quess as to who or what will give and when. That was the case when Uintah played Carbon in Girl's varsity basketball bas-ketball last Thursday. Both teams played 4 quarters of intense, hustling hus-tling basketball. When the final horn had sounded, nothing had been decided as the game ended in a dead lock 51 all. Both teams had their chances to win this one in regulation. Uintah established an early lead in the first period going up 19-14 with a tough press and good crisp passing pass-ing to set up easy lay-ups and short jumpers. The second period followed the same route as the lady Utes held onto on-to a 30-26 half-time lead after leading lead-ing by as many as 8 in the quarter. The third period saw both teams pressing and playing extremely hard-'-especially under the . basket where it looked more like a wrestling match than a basketball game. Neither team was giving an inch. Just when it looked like the home team was going to pull away after a few steals, Carbon would come right back with a few of their own. After 3 it was 39-37 Utes. . The fourth quarter was more of the same except for one little factor fac-tor Carbon's 5-2 quard, Jenny Powell decided to put on a 3 point shooting exhibition to keep her team close. Powell ended up with 5 three pointers, including one in O.T. With under a minute to play, Powell hit another 3 pointer to put Carbon up 49-47. Amanda Wixoni, the Utes outstanding sophomore center then hit two clutch free-throws free-throws to tie it up at 49. Powell again answered with another an-other basket to put her team up 51-49 51-49 with only 30 seconds left. This time it was the Utes senior leader, Carissa Barker who responded with two more free throws to tie it up again at 51. , It looked as if Carbon would have the last shot to win it but the Utes came up with another steal to set up their own opportunity for the victory. victo-ry. The Utes ran the clock down to 4 seconds but great pressure from Carbon kept the girls from getting off a shot and the contest was headed head-ed for overtime. In the overtime period, Uintah controlled the tip and looked to have an easy lay-uo but missed, and Jr. Jazz standings 5th and 6th grade i $ -i .r ' '' ' Win Loss ; utati.E. :....1L. :.b !
