Martinsen dies April 20 Pearl Labrum Martinsen, age 81, of Lapoint died April 20, 1990 in the Duchesne County Hospital. She was born Dec. 9, 1908 in Fremont, Wayne County to Andrew Jackson and Martha Marinda Morrell Jobe. She married Lee Labrum Oct. 4, 1924 and he died in 1943. She married mar-ried Jesse Labrum in 1944, he passed away in 1955. Pearl exchanged ex-changed wedding vows with Charles Martinsen on June 15, 1959. He died Dec. 24, 1988. Pearl came to the Uintah Basin as a young girl and lived in Deep Creek most of her life. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and . painting as well as fishing and camping. A skilled horsewoman, Pearl helped a great deal with work involving the ranch. She also cherished cher-ished her family and appreciated the time spent with them. She is survived by son and daughters: daugh-ters: Glcnda Vaughn, Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Robert (Charman) Justice, Roosevelt; Warren Labrum, Carson City, Nev.; Mrs. Willard (Joyce) Inlow, Carson City, Nev.; Mrs. James B. (Twyla) Lake, Salem, Utah. Two sisters: Mrs. Ray (Mava) Kock, Albequcrquc, N.M.; Aurilda Aingc, Salt Lake City; 21 grandchildren grandchil-dren and 18 great-grandchildren, several step-children and stcp-grandchildrcn. Jackie Rae Gurr Services for former resident to be held Funeral services for Jackie Rae (Nielson) Gurr, 45, of Craig, Colo, will be held May 4, 1990 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vernal Utah Uintah Stake Center at 4080 South 2500 East. She died April 29, 1990 in Lindon, Utah. The viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the stake center. Jackie was born October 31, 1944 in Lapoint, Utah to Travers and JennaVive (Burton) Nielson. She married Reed H. Gurr October 4, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nev. Their marriage mar-riage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on October 4, 1971. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Craig 1st Ward. She is survived by her husband, Reed H. Gurr. Craia Colo, children: Traci Jo Mcintyre, Jenifer Rae Gurr, Randy Earl Gurr, Vicki Lyn Gurr, Debbie Lee Gurr, Tina Kay Gurr, Ronda Jean Gurr, and Holly Dee Gurr, all of Craig, Colo.; stepdaughters: Teresa Dawn Foley, Fruita, Colo, and Alisia Erlcne Mcacham, DcBcquc, Colo.; Mother and Father; sister: Taline Horrocks; brother: Clinton Nielson, all of Lapoint; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Vcmal Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Olpin Family Mortuary of Pleasant Grove, Utah. AIva"AI" Shipman dies in Wyoming Sterling Hyrum Rasmussen, 80, died April 27, 1990 at the Salt Lake L.D.S. Hospital of heart and lung failure. He was born Sept. 12, 1909 in Vernal to Hyrum and Axie (Johnson) Rasmussen. He married Melva Holmes on February 13, 1939. He was a member of the LDS Church, helped build several schools in the Uintah Basin, Rangely College, worked on Bolder Dam, Flaming Gorge Dam and Steinaker Dam. As a youth, he worked as a sheep herder. He loved to go hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and watching the Utah Jazz. He is survived by his wife, Melva, Vernal; children: Mrs. Dee (Emma Jean) Risenmay, Rexburg, Idaho; Floyd Rasmussen, Vernal; Mrs. Paul (Sandy) McCoy, Vernal; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren grand-children and a sister, Mrs. Ted (Fern) Wilcken, Vernal. Funeral services were held Monday, April 30, 1990, at 11:00 a.m. at the Vernal Fourth Ward Chapel with Bishop Faron Wilkins conducting. The family prayer was given by David Gill. Prelude and postlude music was played by Eleanor Marshall. The invocation was given by Ken McCoy. Some remarks were given by Bishop Faron Wilkins, followed fol-lowed by Joseph E. Dee Risenmay spoke, followed by a musical number num-ber 'These Hands" by Ronald G. Walker. The benediction was given by Jim Holmes. Pallbearers were Danny Rasmussen, Morgan McCoy, Ken McCoy, Russell McCoy, Mike Risenmay and Kurt Risenmay. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Holmes, Jim Holmes, Paul McCoy and Owen Caldwell. The dedicatory dedicato-ry prayer was by Dee Risenmay. Vernal Fourth Ward Relief Society was in charge of the compassionate services. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary. Uintah County has high ethnic minority An Ethnic Minority Health Committee has been appointed to advise the Utah Department of Health on ways to improve the health status of Utah's ethnic minorities. mi-norities. In Uintah County in 1988 there were 2,904 ethnic minority persons, according to the Health Department report. Of this number 2,164 were Indian, 684 Spanish, 49 Pacific Islanders-Asians, and seven black. In Duchesne County there were 668 ethnic minority persons, 437 Indian, 198 Spanish, 31 Asian-Pacific Asian-Pacific Islands and two black. In Daggett County there were 12 ethnic minority persons, all listed as Spanish. The purpose of the committee is to promote the physical and mental health of minorities in the state, to stimulate the development of mechanisms mech-anisms for bridging cultural and language barriers, and to affect the legislative process so that decisions and resources are made with an awareness of the needs of Utah's minorities. The number of ethnic minorities in Utah as of 1988 was 131,260, and accounts for 7.7 percent of the total population. The ethnic minority population has a lower status of health than the general population. The mission of the , Ethnic Minority Health Committee is to eliminate all barriers barri-ers to health care for the ethnic minority mi-nority group members in Utah.
