A multi-agency search got underway after the group failed to return to the marina at Bear Lake State Park, as expected at 5 p.m. Monday. "During [the time of the capsizing] there was a very violent wind storm in the Bear Lake area. Utah State Parks officers, Rich County Search and Rescue and other Rich County emergency responders... with the assistance of local boat owners started looking for this missing vessel," said Sheriff Dale Stacey. Using helicopters and boats, rescuers recovered all seven victims from the spring runoffchilled 53-degree waters by 11 p.m. All were wearing life jackets, though prolonged exposure to the cold waters subjected them to varying levels of hypothermia, the sheriff's office reported. The search effort had focused on an area between the marina and the lake's North Beach, which is on the Idaho side of the lake. The boat and the victims were spotted about 6 miles north of the marina. Stacey said that one 42-yearold female, Kathyrn Capener, and two female juveniles were taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital. Kathryn Capener reportedly remained hospitalized on Tuesday, while the two girls had been released. Three female juveniles - police scanner traffic late Monday had noted three of the victims were unresponsive and received CPR before being evacuated by medical helicopters - were confirmed to have died at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City about 2 a.m. Tuesday. Parks officials said the three girls who died were ages 7, 13 and 13. The identities of those victims were not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
