As good of a rivalry as it is, our kids are friends with a lot of their kids and coach [Jerry] Parker and I get along, too." "It's going to take a solid effort on our part to win," Parker said. "I think they'er going to be one of the better teams in our region. With them beating us last year, it's going to be a good one. It's on our calendar." In other Summit County action, Park City starts its season by heading to Kamas to take on the Wildcats. But Park City coach Mike Shepherd said he expects his team to be much more competitive this year. "After last year, with everything that happened, it was an unpleasant experience based on where we started, what happened with coach [Aaron] Alford and the track [resurfacing] fiasco," he said. "There was never really any cohesion. We're really looking forward to being able to start as a normal team and make our way through the process that needs to happen. We're going to take a quantum leap this year." "I think Park City will be better now that Coach Shepherd's got a year under his belt with those kids," Parker agreed. "It should be a very good game." A more experienced roster and some help from a couple of the school's top basketball players should help the Miners drastically. To include an upcoming sports event in the calendar, please send an email to Joe Lair at scoreboard@parkrecord.com. "Bosten Van Der Veur is coming out, Reid Marks is coming out and I've got a senior kid moving in from Montana, who, in addition to playing defensive back and receiver, was an all-region punter last year. "But it's not just the fact that we have those kids coming out. We've got kids who have been in the program who are getting older and quite a bit better." Schedule-wise, two teams - the Wildcats and Miners - will be on the road more often than not. Only the Braves have five home games this year, while South Summit plays five of its nine regular-season games on the road and Park City will travel for six of its 10 regularseason games. All home games for Summit County schools will start at 7 p.m. this year. Park City and South Summit will play on Friday, Aug. 22, in Kamas to start the season, while North Summit plays host to Altamont in its first game. P.C. boys defeat Brighton Junior boys earn lopsided 18-7 LAX victory Submitted by Christa Graff The Park City Junior Boys lacrosse squad, led by head coach Mike Acee and assistant coach Jerry French, played Brighton on Monday, May 12, at Albion Middle School in a non-conference matchup. The game pitted two perennial rivals often battling for state supremacy. Last year the two teams met in a hard fought semifinal battle, where Park City prevailed 14-11 and then went on to win the 2013 Utah State Championship 8-6 over Juan Diego. The teams swapped goals in the first quarter until Park City took a 4-2 lead. Then the floodgates opened, with P.C. jumping out to a 13-6 lead and never looking back. At the final horn, P.C. prevailed 18-7. The win brings the team to a perfect 3-0 record. "I'm very proud of the boys' improvement since we started practice in March," Acee said after the game. "They have come a long way. We have nothing but the utmost respect for the Brighton lacrosse program and I appreciate their willingness to set up this non-conference game. A big thank you to the PCYLO board for all their hard work behind the scenes organizing the kids. But, the season is far from over and one regular season game doesn't make a champion. The boys' next challenge is to show consistency through the remainder of our schedule and into the playoffs." |
