The 2013 Utah Arts Festival opens its gates at noon June 20, launching four days of fun for art fans of all ages. There will be visual arts, kids' activities, literary events, music, dance, film, street theater, urban art, fine feasting, and so much more. And while Thursday crowds tend to be lighter, the happenings that day are among the festival's most enjoyable. Start out with a little extra art money in your pocket by attending on Thursday. Cost is only $10 - a $2 savings off weekend pricing - or get in for half, $6, if you early-bird and arrive before 3 p.m. (early-bird offer is also available Friday). Kids 12 and under get in free throughout the Festival. Thursday brings dynamic music headliners to the Utah Arts Festival multiple stages, with performances by King Niko and Royal Bliss on the Amphitheater Stage, starting at 8:30 p.m. The African Showboyz will rock The Round with its first two festival shows, at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. New Orleans fusion rockers, The Iguanas, play at 9:45 p.m. on the Festival Stage. The 2013 Utah Arts Festival runs Thursday, June 20 through Sunday, June 23, from noon to 11 p.m. on Library Square, 400 South and 200 East in downtown Salt Lake City. Adult admission on Thursday is $10, $12 for Friday through Sunday. Thursday and Friday only, you can get in on the lunchtime special, available noon to 3 p.m., for only $6. The SLCC Community Writing Center presents comic book artwork and writing workshops with Anina Bennett and Paul Guinan, hour-long, hands-on experiences. The Urban Room at the City Library will also offer a Thursday demonstration with colored pencil drawing, presented by Nan Gray.
