Show Wed/Thurs/Fri, March 20-22, 2013 A-9 The Park Record Courchevel welcomes students THE NEW Park City Culinary Institute Presents By TINA QUAYLE President Courchevel Sister City Association Park City and Courchevel, a ski resort town in France, adopted each othersas sister cities in the 1980s. Part of the relationship includes a visit by Park City High School students which occurs every two years. Over winter break this year, 19 students and six adults visited Courchevel for 10 days of cultural exchange. Each student was matched with a French student and hosted by a French family for the entire time. The schedule was nonstop with students skiing the largest connected ski area in the world, Les Trois Vallees, an overnight in a ski refuge, a shopping spree in Annecy, a sampling of regional cuisine, sledding, bowling, and ice skating. As Park City High School's French teacher Monsieur Bernard Rizzotto said, "The discovery of those gigantic mountains and breathtaking landscapes as well as the cultural and linguistic gains that my students displayed are only some of the benefits. Most importantly, it is the relationship that they developed with their new families and friends, which they will carry in their hearts for the rest of their lives." In addition, Park City High School hosted its first-ever French student Leo Coquard for a quarter and an American student Nicole Reese is currently going to school in Moutiers. With the French dual-immersion program underway in Park City's elementary schools the group anticipates that the exchange program will continue to grow. Exchange program participant Francesca Durham said, "As a student at Park City High School I'm very fortunate to be able to be involved with the Courchevel Exchange Program. By visiting Courchevel this February, it expanded my comprehension and speaking in the French language, as well as opening me up to a whole new culture. Staying with a French correspondent showed me how different French family routines were compared to my own fam- ily. Not only did I get to learn more about the language and the culture itself, I was able to make friendships with the French students, as well as getting closer with my own peers from PCHS. The trip to Courchevel was one of the most exciting and beneficial trips that I've been on and I would recommend any student taking French or interested in taking French to participate in this exchange in 2015."
