But new coach Katie McLintock said she hopes to give the girls a long-lasting commitment. "There hasn't been any consistency for them. They've really been through a lot," said McLinlock, who played NAIA volleyball for Westminster College in Salt Lake City the last three years and still attends class in the valley. She jumps aboard the Miners' coaching carousel after PCHS was eliminated in two games at last year's state tournament, when academic issues cost the team valuable contributors. "There's a lot of great coaches out there, but it's nice to have someone who's been in it," McLintock said, noting that she also has experience coaching similar-aged girls at the club level. "I love it because it keeps me in the sport." In all, 39 girls tried out for the team, and 35 will play across four total teams. The varsity squad will play its first home games on Aug. 17 and 19, and McLintock said the teams will remain in flux until then. McLintock said she doesn't yet know who her team's leaders are, but with six returning varsity seniors, "there could be a few of them." "That's going to make us really strong," she said. "I have every expectation of going to state this year. I haven't seen the competition yet, so I cant say where we'll finish, but after tryouts, I was really excited."
