Developer to gate subdivision He hopes to reduce crime and illegal parking in the neighborhood near Parleys Summit By PATRICK PARKINSON Of the Record staff • '.'••eV; Bfindon McKee DDS Park City Dental Associates 1830JRrospector Avenue *43£*649-6066 JS;^. Norwegian Outdoor &~ The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission voted 5-1 last week to allow a developer at Parleys Summit to gate his subdivision. The new 42-lot Woods at Parleys Lane sits adjacent to Interstate 80 so homeowners fear thieves and would-be partiers may make use of easy access to the private mountain community. But Basin Planning Commissioner Julie Hooker, who voted against a conditional use permit lor the locked gate, said it sends an unneeded message of elitism and exclusivity. "I'm opposed to any gates in our community. Hooker told her colleagues in May. But firefighters and Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds supported the gate saying it might keep people out. The builder must submit a plan for how the gate will be operated before it can be closed, Summit County planner Kimber Gabryszak said. "They can't just put up a gate and keep it closed all the time." Gabryszak said. The plan should indicate "when it's going to be open, if someone is going to be manning it, when it's going to be closed [and] how emergency personnel are going to access it/* she added. Residents in neighboring subdivisions spoke in favor of locking the gate. The developer sued last year when the Summit County Commission voted 2-1 against the proposal.
