Conversant in four languages, LeClerc is also a world traveler, having immersed himself in the cul-. tures and cuisines of Europe, Thailand, India, Hawaii, and Central America. Of the Record staff Park City's only surgery center, a HealthSouth office near Prospector Square, will close it's doors Aug. 11. HealthSouth corporate representatives told the local staff the center would be closing in a meeting held July 12, giving the staff 30 days to find new jobs. Although members of the local staff declined comment, HealthSouth Spokesperson Kristi Gilmore said the employees, roughly estimated at 20, will receive severance pay and assistance in finding new jobs in the medical community"The center staff worked diligently over the past few years to grow in a very challenging local healthcare community and to provide a needed service to the residents and visitors of Park City," she said. "Last fall, the center sold additional shares of the center to local physicians in a re-syndication process designed to bring additional business to the center, but the results achieved through these efforts did not provide the center with the volume necessary to keep the center open." Many doctors who regularly use the facility, as well as others in the community, purchased shares of the center for $10,000 each, some buying one, some several, said partner Renato Saltz, a plastic surgeon who operates at the center at least twice a week. Saltz and partner/office Medical Director Thomas Meuleman both said Utah in nation's top five for job growth Utah's number of non-farm wage and salaried jobs registered a year-over increase of 4.8 percent for June 2006. Approximately 55,600 new jobs have developed in the Utah economy over the past year, raising total wage and salary employment in Utah to 1,204,500. This rate keeps Utah within the top five states nationwide for employment growth. The last time Utah experienced an employment growth rate in the high 4-percent range was in early 1997. Utah's other primary indicator of current labor market conditions, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate, registered 3.1 percent in June, down 1 .S'perceptage points from the unemplojpent rate of ^4.3 percent registered a year ago in JuriS 2005. Approximately 40,000 Utahns were unemployed in June 2006 as compared to 54,000 in June 2005. May's unemployment rate is unrevised at 3.5 percent. GRAYSON WEST/Wtff RECORD The Park City HealthSouth office, which occupies the entire second floor, will close Its doors on Aug. 11. they were asked by HealthSouth corporate representatives to recruit 4iew partners for the center up until May, but Gilmore said they stopped recruiting and selling nearly seven months before. Meuleman also said he had been told by HealthSouth representatives that the decision to close the facility had been made six weeks earlier, but Gilmore said the decision was made only days before the announcement. "They must have been thinking about closing even while offering partnerships," Meuleman said. "I can't conclude anything else. Everyone who was investing money just loses it. We feel like we've been scammed. "It was presented as a partnership and it never functioned as such. It seemed like a one-way scam. HealthSouth has had a Courtyard at Quarry Village will finish its first phase March 2007 By SKYLER BELL Of the Record staff QUA, Inc., today began pre-selling town homes located in its new seven-acre develops ment located behind the Quarry Village shopping center. Groundwork fias already ^ begun on the development, called The Courtyard at Quarry Village, and structure work is planned to begin in August. The phase-one homes will range in size from 1,600 to 2200 square feet, but larger three-bedroom units will be added in the fourth andfinalphase. "We're have a strong construction background, live in Park City and care about the community," said Scott Webber about he and partner Jay Shotwell, the contractors on the project. "We care about the long-term effects of the project. We drive past it every day and really care what it looks like and how it functions as a community." The $30,000 development of 52 town homes has been planned for over five years as part of the Pinebrook community, but Yesterday afternoon, as thousands of NAACP members stormed Capitol Hill (including a local Utah delegation) demanding passage of a strong Voting Rights Act reauthorization, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed, by a unanimous vote of 18 to zero, a "clean" Voting Rights Act Reauthorization with no amendments. Today the full U.S. Senate was expected to debate the bill; a vote on final passage is expected this week. The Utah Delegation met with Sen. Bob Bennett and with Sen. Orrin Hatch's legislative person on the Voting Rights Reauthorization bill. They also met with Congressman Jim Matneson to thank him for his support and "yes" vote in the House. The NAACP had approximately 800 to 900 youth and college students march on the hill yesterday to support the VRA. Please see Courtyard,B-11 RENDERING SUPPLIED BY QUA, INC. Sellers who started making repairs and repainting their homes several months ago are now listing freshly decorated, ready-to-show properties. Families with children are eager to buy now so they can move during summer vacation, before the new school year begins. The price and condition of a property are the two most important factors in any market. Buyers and sellers will benefit by obtaining comparative sales information from experienced local real estate agents, or paying for a professional home appraisal, which provides an objective opinion of the real market value. What can we expect of this year's summer market? Competition will be even higher than at other times of the year for the most desirable properties. Selfers can be assured of success if their property is in good condition. Homebuyers who are pre-approved for a mortgage loan will be in a better position to make a timely offer on the right home. The housing market usually slows down in late summer and then picks up again in the fall. Now is definitely the time to act! For rock solid advice on buying or selling real estate, call Craig Reece at 435-647-8017 or toll free at 1-800-553-4666.
