Petco Foundation assists Friends of Animals The Petco Foundation's annual Spring A Pet, which ended April 16, exceeded $1.7 million in donations. Throughout the four-week fundraiser, customers visiting one of. Petco 's more than 790 stores could purchase "Spring A Pef'donation cards in denominations of $1, $5, $10 and $20, or round up their purchase. Donors of $20 or more received a "Making a Difference" picture frame. Each Petco store selected an animal welfare group that celebrates the human-animal bond, and then collected donations on that organization's behalf. This year. Summit County Friends of Animals partnered with the Petco store at Redstone in Kimball Junction. "I am very proud that we are able to assist approximately 1,000 animal welfare organizations across the country this year," said Paul Jolly, foundation director and vice president. "There are thousands of animals across the country that will benefit from the generosity of our customers. We're deeply grateful to be able to organize and distribute this collection effort each year on behalf of all of those animals \vho depend on us for their well being." Local proceeds from Spring A Pet 2006 will be used by Summit County Friends of Animals to purchase supplies and pay monthly rent for their highly successful adoption center, Furburbia, located in the Tanger Outlet Center. This donation will enable Summit County Friends of Animals to exceed past year adoption rates and go well beyond 600 successful adoptions per year. In addition, the funds will assist in creating new educational programs that will be launched this summer, specifically a summer camp for 10-13 year olds. "We are so gratefuLfor Petco Park City's ongoing support. They have shown their passion for rescuing and rehoming unwanted pets in their support of many of our endeavors", says Charlene Brewster, treasurer of the board of trustees. "We especially want to thank Mark Giorgio [store manager] for his commitment to making our programs a success here in Summit County. Through promotions such at Spring A Pet, the Park City Petco has donated more than $7,500 to Friends of Animals since opening at Redstone two years ago. They also opened their doors and donated supplies and merchandise to support FOA's Hurricane Katrina efforts last September. The Petco Foundation, Petco's nonprofit organization, has raised approximately $30 million since its inception in 1999. More than 3,300 nonprofit grassroots animal welfare organizations from around the nation receive foundation support. Summit County Friends of Animals (FOA) is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to protect and provide for animals while fostering an awareness of their importance in our lives. FOA is comprised of staff and volunteers dedicated to assisting two local shelters, Summit County and Heber City, in rescuing andfindingnew homes for dogs and cats. Through shelter rescues, FOA has achieved the goal of ending euthanasia of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats in Summit and Wasatch counties.
