Oakley ranch honored by Angus Association River Ranch Angus, Oakley, Utah, has been recognized nationally by the American Angus Association for having registered Angus cow included in the association's 2006 Pathfinder Report. Only 2,187 of the more than 34,000 American Angus Association members are represented in this year's report, according to John Crouch, executive vice president of the association that is headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri. The Pathfinder Program identifies superior Angus cows based upon recorded performance traits that are economically important to efficient beef production. These traits include early and regular calving and heavy weaning weights, reports Bill Bowman, association director of performance program. More than 1,495,360 eligible dams were examined to determine Pathfinder status. All registered Angus cows that meet the strict Pathfinder standards are listed alongside their owners in the Pathfinder Report published annually. The 2006 Pathfinder Report lists over 9,000 individual cows and 258 Pathfinder sires. It is published in the April issue of the Angus Journal and the reports can also be found on the Web site at www.angus.org. While Zoom plans on being closed for only a handful of months, Easy Street Brasserie fans and Bar Boheme loungers will need to order up a healthy dose of French rotisserie-cooked chicken and milk chocolate banana crepes this weekend to tide them over for the next year and a half. The restaurant and bar will be closed until 2007 to make way for the construction of the Sky Lodge, a new sixstory boutique hotel. The last night for Easy Street's grilled flatbread and goat cheese will be this Sunday, April 9, according to the restaurant's manager John Burdick. "Nothing particularly special is going on, but we'll probably run specials as we run down in food toward the end of the weekend," he said. In 2002, Easy Street opened in the restored Utah Coal and Lumber Building, which was originally built in 1925. The menu changes with each new season, featuring local and regional cottage food producers and farmers, and is widely considered one of Old Town's elite restaurants. After this weekend. Easy Street's utilities, including gas, water and power, will be turned off in an effort to dig a twolevel underground parking lot for the Sky Lodge with a capacity of approximately 50 cars, Burdick says. The new hotel and parking structure will be located behind Easy Street. In the next few weeks. Old Town pedestrians will also notice a crane that rivals the crane used to build Swede Alley's new parking structures. "They're bringing in a crane a little bit larger than the parking structure's crane - it's supposed to be the largest sky crane in Utah," Burdick says. According to the Sky Lodge's web site, once complete, the hotel will feature a spa, a fitness center with an indoor lap pool, 16 three-bed units and five twobedroom units as well as a private penthouse wiih a 360-degree view. It will be a member-owned residence club, with each GRAYSON WEST/PARK RECORD Staples backs Arts-Kids programs Local Staples manager John Donnelly presents Arts-Kids Executive Director Kris Beer, left, and Arts-Kids Development Director and Founder Pat Drewry Sanger, a check for $5,500 from the Staples Foundation for Learning. State Farm agent advises making IRA contributions An IRA contribution of the 2005 maximum of $4,000 prior to April 17, 2006 could reduce taxable income, according to State Farm agent Bryan Daybell. If an individual turned 50 or older by the end of 2005, they can add a $500 catch-up contribution to potentially reduce the tax burden even more, he says. Those who already have a traditional IRA, should plan to make a contribution prior to the April 17 deadline. Those who don't have an IRA should talk to a financial professional as soon as possible to start one, Daybell explains. For those that don't qualify for a traditional IRA, Daybell recommends they consider a Roth IRA. deed-owning member guaranteed the ability to reserve their residence for 35 days each year.
