The event will play a role in nominating bialhletes for Torino in 2006. These competitions, hosted by the Maine Winter Sports Center, will be the highlight of the US domestic biathlon schedule this year. All of the top US biathletes (except Jay Hakkinen, already pre-qualified for Torino) will be vying for the top spots in the four separate competitions. Approximately 40 athletes are expected to meet the qualifying standard of 80 points on the US Biathlon ranking list to participate in the Festival. Four competitions spanning the New Years holidays will challenge the biathletes' skills. The Festival opens with the Men's 20K Individual and the Women's 15K Individual on December 29.
