Opening is created after Bruce Erickson does not reapply By JAY HAMBURGER Of the Record staff Nine Parkites arc seeking a spot on the Park City Planning Commission and one longtime incumbent is not seeking reappointment, creating an opening for a new member of the panel responsible for overseeing how development proceeds in the city. The Park City Council interviewed applicants on Thursday but the elected officials have not yet scheduled when they will make the appointments. The Planning Commission is the most notable City Hall panel other than the City Council and commissioners are charged with making numerous development-related decisions. Commissioners are responsible for considering a range of applications, from smaller subdivisions to the largest projects proposed in the city. They also play a role in determining the city's long-term development strategies through reviews of documents like the General Plan and the Land Management Code, which outline planning-related rules. Currently, the Planning Commission is considering several high-profile applications, including the Sweeney family's proposed Treasure Hill development on a hillside west of Old Town and Intermountain Health Care's proposed hospital and medical campus at Quinn's Junction. In the future. Planning Commissioners will likely consider additional proposed developments at Quinn's Junction among others. Planning Commission decisions can be controversial and meetings sometimes draw significant and divided crowds. Terms are for four years and commissioners meet twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Bruce Erickson, a member of the Planning Commission since 1989, did not seek re-appointment, creating a slot not being sought by an incumbent. Jim Barth, appointed in 2001. is seeking to rem,ain on the Planning Commission. "Jefferson envisioned (an) informed and involved electorate I have the time, devotion, and 'duty' to serve my new home community in some capacities." Hull wrote.
