No school Monday Remember, there is no school Monday in Park City. It is a make-up snow day. PCEF honors Volunteers of the Year for Park City schools at annual lunch By JARED WHITLEY Of the Record staff Park City Education Foundation lion-. orcd parents who had volunteered countless hours for the school district at its annual luncheon at 'Hie Canyons. "You should all be very proud of your efforts," PCEF executive director Lynn Heinlcin told the group of more than 200 educators and parents. Volunteers were voted for by teachers, staff, and parents involved at the school. Three finalists were recognized Wednesday, given flowers, and then a winner was announced for each school. Some of the winners gave short speeches to the crowd. Parley's Park winner Carol Librizzi told the crowd. "It just really gives mo chills to know that all these parents are here on behalf of the children." 'I"his is the eighth year the foundation has given the volunteer awards, and the third year that McPolin mom and standup comic Stacy Dymalski has hosted the luncheon. "The year thai you don't ask me, I'll probably be out there with a big 'shame on you' sign," Dymalski joked. Dymalski kept the crowd laughing with a variety of jokes about toilet seats, bikini wax ings for men, her husband swearing in front of their children, and a chicken impersonation. Because so much of Dymalski s life is being a parent and volunteer at her school, she said she enjoyed having an audience that could appreciate jokes about those experiences. "The pay really sucks" for volunteers, she said. Dymalski's son has started first-grade at McPolin this year, and she said that at about 2 p.m.. she really starts to miss him. His response to her is that he doesn't. "The irony is, if they don't think about us, we've done our job right." Dymalski said. But people other than Dymalski had the chance to crack a joke or two. Ecker Hill Principal Cireg Prof fit did a "Napoleon Dynamite" dance and started singing "Kumbayah" during a somber speech about volunteerism in education. This year two men were finalists for the mom-dominated (or "mom"-inated) awards, including Dymalski's husband George, but neither of them won Volunteer of the Year. For bios on the winners, see the subsequent story. Masterpieces also brings into Park City classrooms Utah artists who discuss their craft. Your personal finances, job history, credit rating, assets and liabilities will be reviewed and discussed by professionals who will decide whether or not your loan package should be approved. If you want the loan, avoid the following home purchase pitfalls. Don't quit your job. Lenders look for a two-year track record of stable employment, so if you plan to start your own business, do so after you buy the home. Don't change employers unless you will be working at a similar job and earning more income. For example, it's acceptable for a public school teacher to change school districts or move to another position with a higher salary. Don't buy a brand new car, new home furnishings or a diamond bracelet for a loved one's birthday. Financing any kind of major purchase that increases your debt-to-income ratio is like waving a : reef flag in front of the mortgage underwriter. . Don't co-sign on a loan for another party. That debt is counted ! as yours. Finally, don't move money from one account to another without a documented paper trail for the lender to follow.
