O&m' ':m44r A prominent Utah artist spoke Thursday at the Women in Business luncheon. Nancy Lund began her painting career after her husband and friend challenged her to do it. Since then, she said, she has not looked back. Born in Salt Lake City, Lund began her art schooling at the University Uni-versity of Utah. She has studied at the New York Art Students League and with several contemporary masters including Millard Sheets, George Post, Milford Zomes, Laffel and Goetz. Lund has actively exhibited her work since 1980 while teaching not only at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, but also for community art centers such as the Bountiful Art Center, Kings Cottage in Salt Lake City and the Watercolor Society in Pocatello, Idaho. In 1980, Lund was the only woman in the intermountain area to receive an award for her nationally recognized artistic achievements. Her work now hangs in commercial institutions as well as private collections. collec-tions. Lund said painting was a source of escape for her. There is little symmetry in her work instead there is an aura of abstraction which blends her images into delightful visual perceptions. "I've got to go beyond a flower in a pot," she explained. "To capture cap-ture the feeling, the excitement, the happiness, that's why I do what I do." Lund's works are awash with a rainbow of colors. ' ' I love colors," she said. "Colors are the words which convey con-vey my feelings." Lund will display her works in the furniture department of the downtown ZCMI Mar. 23-27, from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. She will move the display to ZCMI in the Cottonwood Cotton-wood Mall Mar. 28, from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. Lund will also display her art at the grand opening of Granite Nancy Lund is a Utah native whose work appears in galleries and private collections throughout the world.
