Show The Mummy I Ik A.liBsryS THE MUMMY: BORIS KARLOFF we can learn from those who have returned from the dead: Jesus as The Son of God Nixon as Mr. President Boris Karloff as The Mummy You just didn't see Boris hurrying anywhere, then. And he didn't get angry, but held his madness in, and breathed it, the light playing on his face as if he stood before a burning city. Boris knew what being dead for 3,240 years does to someone. And he showed it in his grace, his positive impoliteness, his unequivocable silences. When others would scatter, or at best, cower, Boris merely stood, letting the holocausts roll through him. While others loved in leaps or fidgets Boris loved eternal, dark, deeply. You couldn't joke with Boris. He found things unfathomably funnier than that. And you couldn't pass the time of day with him. He would stand unfocused, taller than your voice, and might walk away mid-sentence. But as usual, his power was his weakness. His concentration was so keen, so clear his mind, that others looking at him, saw themselves. So they sunk dagger wrist deep into Boris, and his eyes looked out at a distant familiar detour while his mummy body withered and split open like a milk week pod scattering thirty centuries of dust across the floor. Death sweeping across him like the wind reshaping the Sahara. Jim Hall |
