Show Philosophy's nature to be lecture 's topic The University's Department of Philosophy will open the twentieth annual Great Issues Forum, "Great Issues in Philosophy," with a discussion of "The Nature of Philosophy" in a paper read by Dr. Waldemer P. Read, professor emeritus of philosophy. The forum is scheduled at 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the Orson Spencer Hall Auditorium. The premise of Dr. Read's paper is that philosophy is continuous with other studies, though more thoughtful. "I consider the thinking done by so-called 'professional Philosophers' to be continuous with human thought in general," he explained. "The study of philosophy is just like any other study except that it is more circumspect cir-cumspect in its procedure and more persistent in its endeavor." Dr. Read's comments will be discussed by Dr. T.M. Reed, chairman of the Department of Philosophy at the University, and Dr. Lawrence C. Evans, chairman of the Department of Philosophy at Weber State College. Dr. William N. Whisner, assistant professor of philosophy, will act as moderator of the discussion. Afterward, the forum will be opened to comments from the audience.
