Show New calendar would eliminate final week hew concept in the academic ti'sndarwill be discussed May 30 li the University Senate. Imposed by the Dean of Admissions Ad-missions and Registration, Frank Mean, the new calendar would tninate the traditional final elimination period and would re-redule re-redule in-person registration to the day after classes end. Ike change was proposed because many professors do not k the final period for finals, Mead giving tests during dead stand before. It was felt that ii week could be used for titration and for a vacation for fealty and students. 11 passed by the Senate, the calendar would fjo into effect for the 1973-74 year. This would give Equate time for feedback from faartments and students. As it is ". no student input has oc-(a"l. oc-(a"l. The faculty-student (Mtee involved, the Academic Calendar Committee, was decodified when it was apparent that it was not doing much. The most obvious advantage of the new plan is that it would give students a week vacation between bet-ween quarters, even during the spring break. But the major advantage is the extra week between in-person registration and the first day of classes. This would give students a better opportunity to get hassles worked out and would give the Registrar's Office and the academic departments an extra week to make additions and changes. Another major change for the 1974-75 year is being formulated at this time. "We ought to have a joint faculty-student committee on it," said Mr. McKean.
