Show HIT Thanks Editoi;: I would like to sincerely thank and congradulate those students who participated in the "Outreach "Out-reach Community Self-Help Day." Self-Help Day served many purposes, very successfully. Approximately $23,000 has thus far been raised by students, faculty, and staff to enable low income students of all backgrounds the opportunity to obtain a higher education. Community and campus relations will reap the benefits of our having shown concern for others who sought our aid. Outreach has shown success for all those who have and will get involved. Thanks again for proving that "apathy" is a five letter word that the students at the U can't even spell. Dave Hansen Outreach Chairman Indian uprising Editor: This is a note of protest against Mr. Woodbury's October 22 article. American Indians have long been sterotyped as a "Drunken Indian." We American Indian students at the U feel we have been stereo typed by a few choice sentences in your article. We no longer want articles connected with the Indian In-dian in a satire or stereotyped form in the Chronicle any more or action will be taken against Mr. Woodbury and the Chronicle. Venita Taveapont President, Red Americans Club Lies, you cad! Editor: In regards to Dan Steggell's column on Oct. 20, I feel it is necessary to put the record straight concerning the lies, misconceptions, and half truths of his column. To begin with Mr. Steggell has printed an outright lie when he said he saw the football team eating steak dinners at the "Rodeway Inn." Mr. Steggell has established a credibility gap that is less tolerable than the credibility gap that the students have complained about in our government. How can Mr. Steggell claim to be a voice of the students when he is pulling the same type of hypocracy that our generation is trying to do away with? (Since the last year or so Mr. Steggell has lashed out at our elected officials for not telling us the truth.) Since Mr. Steggell has made up the story about seeing the football team eating steak dinners at the Rodeway Inn, at his expense, ex-pense, there is a good reason to believe he has made up the other stories he has written as well. Such as the story of three muscular individuals being smashed, his friend Darwin passing on a tale about a party of enlightment, and his misconception miscon-ception that the ASUU athletic fee goes to the football teams budget. The whole idea of calling football players "dumb" is quite irresponsible. It seems in poor taste that the Chronicle would allow their, columnist to print such nonsense. I'm all for freedom of the press but the Chronicle should realize that with freedom comes RESPONSIBILITY. Isn't the Chronicle or Mr. Steggell responsible to anyone to print the truth? Mr Steggell would have us believe that the ASUU athletic fee goes entirely to football If Mr. Steggell was half as smart as what he calls "dumb" football players or if he was writing the truth he would have written that most of the ASUU athletic fee is used to help subsidize the nonprofit non-profit aspects of athletics, such as cheerleaders, Utahnas, wrestling swimming, gymnastics, track etc not the football budget. Instead of selling students down the drain to a few football payers the assembly saved minor sports at his University. Many thanks to the assembly. Mr. Steggell also made the point that athletics- in a community of academia seems inconsistent. Yet if Mr. Steggell had ever walked in the shoes of athletics he would have realized that athletics is a greater learning experience than the classroom. In the future let's hope the Chronicle will take the responsibility respon-sibility to print the truth and do something about their columnists credibility. Brent Larsen Great fifth Editor: It seems that the Chronicle staff has taken upon itself the single responsibility of printing student opinion and consensus. The case in point: Jane Kesler's critique of the Fifth Dimension. Miss Kesler, if the concert had been that poor, why did the audience call with "wild applause" ap-plause" for "two encores?" Secondly, it can hardly be considered "mob action" when four people leave the stage and bring four people back to dance on stage with them. And last of all, why would at least 10,000 people clap and sing if they didn't enjoy the performance? The attitude of the Chronicle to' publish poor reviews ("Hello, Dolly!" and Fifth Di mension) and other articles reflecting rr nu opinions (no referent- -.n( minority groups) is rid: JS Your funds are our fund le not try using them as ant re( student voice? ...
