Show ' m U6C rive Dionne and crew wail on Saturday night crowd ' a fast-moving entertaining Beautiful harmony was thp ko,-, ..... , . . a fast-moving entertaining evening is only one of many $ ways to describe the Dionne i Warwicke concert, Saturday $ night in the Special Events h Center. Featured with Miss War- wicke were the Con-$ Con-$ stellations, a male version of ;-l tne Supremes, who have 4,' been a part of the show for j three years. Opening with a temporarily " imperfect sound system, the Constellations started their ; song tour which took the audience from Motown to . Soulsville. Beautiful harmony was the main element of the songs "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and one of their favorites, "Sunrise, Sunset." The Constellations, taking their name from the age of Aquarius, were: Bob Williams, Gemini; Z'ach Sanders, Capricorn; and Charles Collins, Cancer. The audience eagerly became involved with the singer when "everybody clap your hands," was yelled to the crowd. Singing and swinging to strong piano playing, everyone soon became wrapped up in the jumpy tune. With a hasty "We love you madly, and it's cold here," the Constellations left a pleased crowd. A unique opening for a unique personality is only appropriate. The voice, Miss Warwick War-wick e 's ... t h e stage, dark . . the song, "Pure Imagination" from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". . .and then Miss Warwicke. Sitting, she asked "I hope you are prepared for what Dionne has prepared." The audience was prepared, prepared for her own song style which again proved pleasing to the ear. Twelve years ago Dionne Warwicke recorded a song, "Close to You," which the Carpenters recently made popular. She sang her version Saturday night adding new depth. "One Less Bell to Answer" was recorded as a demonstration record by Miss Warwicke ten years ago. Today the Fifth Dimension have sold close to four million copies of the not-so-new song. She gave the audience the original version. She left the stage amidst vigorous applause and whistles, and the audience felt a kind .of disappointment disap-pointment Dionne Warwicke War-wicke never gives an encore. NR |
