Show U takes honors in writing Prof. Henry S. Taylor, of the University of Utah English Department De-partment won first place in the serious poetry division of the 13 th annual Original Creative Writing Contest of the Utah State Institute of Fine Arts. Prof. Taylor won the first place title and the accompanying $400 prize for his "Buring Horses and other Poems." Two other University English Professors were awarded an honorable hon-orable mention. They were Prof. Don D. Walker, and Prof. Edward Lueders. Also awarded an honorable mentions in various var-ious categories were graduate students, Emma Lou Thayne, Lester Standiford and Jeff Rackham. First place and $400 in the juvenile book division was won by University graduate Barbra W. Williams. Each award-winning manuscript manu-script will be bound and placed in the permanent library of the Utah State Institute of Fine Arts and will be open to the public. There was a total of 147 manuscripts manu-scripts turned in for the consideration consid-eration of the 29 judges. |
