Sports Editor The Western Athletic Conference Confer-ence basketball title could very well be decided this weekend but it it is the winner will have to win it on the road. At the moment three teams Anzona State, Brigham Young and Utah are in a tie for first place in the league race. Utah and BYU invade the ports of Colorado State and Wyoming, this weekend. Friday, the Utes tackle the Rams at Fort Collins, while the Cougars assault the Cowboy's in Laramie, Saturday the Utes and Cougars switch partners, part-ners, while Arizona State, faces downtrodden Arizona in Tucson Utah and BYU have a tough job ahead of them. CSU and Wyoming, Wyo-ming, although not in first place, could certainly aid their chances of getting there by each picking up two victories over their invaders inva-ders this weekend. The Redskins grabbed wins over both the Cowboys and Rams when they visited here earlier in the year. Colorado State proved to be the toughest test for the Utes as it took a last second jump shot by Mike Newlin to pull off the win 80-78. Utah had trouble in that game with Ram Ail-American candidate can-didate Mike Childress. The big center pulled down 17 rebounds and scored 25 points, while giving the Redskin defense fits the whole Die Ken Gardner looks for pass during Utah's first win over Wyoming. Redskins are trying for rerun Saturday night. |
