Show Proper ski equipment- a necessity around; the ideal outfit. On your feet, put Lange Competition booties with the Lange-Flo. (The foam has had some shrinkage problems and the Flo is easier to sell when the time comes around.) For support, add a pair of Lange Spoilers to the back of your comps. Be sure to have them installed by a guy who knows what he's doing because its crucial to get them perfectly on the underside of your calf muscle. The spoilers are padded attachments attach-ments bolted onto the back of your boots that give super-support to the leg for any kind of skiing. With these boots on your feet, latch them up with a Marker toe and Rotomat heel and all this should be put on top of the dream ski-The Dynamic VR 17. These skis are racing skis that meet every demand put on them. They react to moguls by humiliating humiliat-ing the mountain. In powder they get to the tip extremely fast and stay high. (Much like some of my friends with their favorite sport's tool.) The Dynamic VR-17 is ski perfection in motion. So enough of my babbling and on with the snow, and remember, may your fairy Godmother protect pro-tect your feeble bones to ski another day, and another, and another.... of boards latched up with a fine pair of fitted boots. Intermediate skiers should jump into a pair of Langes, Rieckles, Nordicas, or Daleboots to get a good boot, and to help their progress. The hottest reports, re-ports, thus far, have been with the Langes, in the Pro series. The skis the intermediate skier should look at would again be the Heads and the 320 and 600 series are best in that brand. All of the K-2 ski line (not excluding the Competition model) are fine skis for the semi-hot skier. The Fischer line is great for strong legs and excepting the Comp and the Im-perator Im-perator models. Vokkle skis are a good skiability buy. The Hart and the Olin skis are strong durability skis. Now for the hot-dog, the advanced ad-vanced or expert skier. This man usually picks his skis for himself based on what he has seen in the 1 BY JIM STITH ! Sports Columnist Last Tuesday we were dancing n three feet of fresh, light, soft ind dry powder at Park City West. Wednesday we went back for nore of the same. Saturday we oined Warner Brothers and their wrence of Arabia cast for nother round, but the joke was m us. The morning was fast-hard-ack, and the afternoon-well hat's another story; and not a linny one. The snow kept falling white, ight and lots of it. The only 'roblem was, a month ago some-ne some-ne turned nature's air-onditioner air-onditioner onto super-cold, and ,iy body just couldn't handle it. oday I find myself sitting here ith umbrella in hand, hoping the ime nut who hit the r-conditioner will think to turn 1 the air-dehumidifier. save the best for last: First, the Fischer Superglass is a sensational ski for easy hard-pack turning. They wear well, keep their camber perfectly and swallow moguls with a flexible front end while holding the line on ice. They are hard to beat, but can be beaten by the K-2 Competition model. These light-quick skis turn without any effort and come highly recommended from their newly organized, but growing fan club. A very good friend of mine, Lou Peery, has made the switch from Heads to Superglass and swears they out perform everything every-thing in sight. He took them in the deep powder and said they rise to the top quickly and from the way it looked, they turn in the deep stuff without effort. K-2's do not need loving care-they care-they need the aggressive treatment and you have to stay on them at all times or you might find your body being run away with. Now the last and best of what I consider ' the greatest boards pertormance of other people's skiing on a certain brand. He listens to the scuttlebutt and that's what this part of the story is. Anyone in this class is surely aided by the Rosemount and competing com-peting Daleboot boots. Rieckle is hard to beat and especially this year's model. Nordica has a fantastic fan-tastic plastic boot out that gives amazing boot-to-ski feeling and holds up well. On skis, you'll dig a new one-the Stein Erickson L-21 competition ski by Northland. They're extremely fast and can ski anything with ease arid response. They're hot ones, great in moguls and fast anywhere. You'll have to dull the edges with your poles on the upper 13 of the ski on the L-21, and on the Fischer, Ros-signol, Ros-signol, and the Vokkle skis. Now I'd like to give you a touch of personal opinion, if I may on what I consider to be this year's three hottest skis, and I'll rHE THREADS AND THINGS (If its tight-fitting, flourescent id expensive-wear it!) This ar's ski fashions are breaking all nds of bright color records. The is are hot. Warm-ups are be-ming be-ming increasingly popular. And day the wet-look (without nbrella) is in. This week we'll examine the i's-the hot ones, and the not-,-hot-ones. Jin looking at skis, I think you lould remember that skiing is a 'art that demands quality from equipment. From the beginner ge on up to expert, to increase jficiency you have to have good ots, good bindings and good s.' If you're a beginner and can rt out on a good pair of Heads, Harts or K-2's, by all means do " You'd be surprised how easily 'ise turns come with a good set |
