Show Construction begins in March on married student housing Construction will begin next March on 14 married student housing units east of Foothill Boulevard near Sunnyside Avenue. Ave-nue. The $4 million project will result in a completely self-contained community surrounded with landscaping and screened parking. Vice President Brigham D. Mad-sen Mad-sen said plans for the student housing expansion were approved last year by the State Board of Higher Education. Near University Village Dr. Madsen said the site was selected near the existing University Uni-versity Village to keep operating costs at a minimum The project will be completely self-supporting, financed by the sale of revenue bonds and partially supported by an interest subsidy grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The completion com-pletion date for the new housing units is Dec. 1971. Emphasis On Landscaping "The emphasis will be on landscaping," land-scaping," said Dr. Madsen. Only 2.12 acres of the 19.6 acre project will contain buildings. Screened parking will occupy 4.71 acres with the remaining 65 percent of the total area in landscaping. New roads through the research park will provide married students with quick access to the campus. Other Facilities The housing project will also include air conditioning, laundry facilities, a central activities center and recreation areas. The architects, Minson and Jo-lander, Jo-lander, have provided plans for 322 units 70 one-bedroom, 168 two-bedroom and 84 three-bedroom apartments. There will be 23 units in each building. |
