Show Escalante hearing today entered in the record. All particulars are avail, the Ecology Center in the Li A slide show of the Escalante Canyon Country was presented Friday by the Ecology Center to generate interest in hearings being held Friday on the proposed designation of the area. The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. in the State Office Bldg. and will continue as long as needed to hear everyone who wishes to testify. The Bureau of Land Manage ment (BLM) has recommended that the area be protected under federal ownership. But conservation conserva-tion groups including the Escalante Es-calante Wilderness Committee of the Wasatch Mountain Club are working to have the . canyons designated as primitive wilderness. Under the Wilderness Committee's Com-mittee's proposal, the area would be protected from motorized travel as well as mining and misuse. mis-use. The issue Friday is one in a series which those concerned about Escalante have faced in an attempt to keep the canyon in its natural state. Anyone who wishes to speak at the hearing may register at the door. No advance request is required. re-quired.
