State has done more for progressive progres-sive music in this city than anyi-cne anyi-cne ever has. Under the' directioi of Stan Schubach, Tape Mead in . the past year has brought in th best concert groups available, r4 jardless of how well the groupi are known if they are good in concert, Stan will eventually dis,-cover dis,-cover them and bring them into Salt Lake, usually at the Terracel It the group or groups are not: veil known, Tape Head will risk losing their shorts, just to expose ihem. If Tape Head is bringing someone into town, even if you've ever heard of them, you can bet it's going to be a good concert. This Monday night, August 10, it the Terrace, Tape Head will present three relatively unknown, ut quite sensational concert groups. Alice Cooper, a contro- ersial five-piece group is freaky ' say the least of you have seen the handbills you get that rcpression, anyway you have to see it to believe - it. Two other great bands will play along with Cooper. The Amboy Dukes are four ama-iing musicians playing heavier material, and Brownsville . . Station ia good-time rock'n roll band. j ' Keep in Snfoid Sept. 5th. On this date Tape Head will present two' of the tightest and most underrated under-rated banijls in existence, in my opinion. They are Poco and Leon Russell, i Special Events Center Tickets are still available for the Dionne Warwick concert August Aug-ust 29. It should be one of the best shows Salt Lake has seen this year . Records In Review "Ritf" (Capitol): This is roallv a classy group three superb 'musicians 'mu-sicians (bass, guitar, keyboard and rhythm guitar) and songwriters. The music. lyrics and instrumental ion are really inventive, displaying hints of fol'lc. .pop. country and jazz backgrounds back-grounds the same kind of versatility versa-tility as CSN&Y. "I'm J'lust A. Prisoner" Candi Statioji (Fame): If you're a "soul" fan who is disappointed in the contemporary con-temporary Rhythm and Blues outlook, out-look, this album might cheer you up. This is the perfect R & B album (that's no hype). I think this chick is in the same class as Aretha Franklin, Frank-lin, and her back-up is top-notch "World Vide 50 Gold Award Hits. Vol. I." Elvis Presley (RCA): This is Elvis' 50 biggest hits over the last 15 years everything from "Hound Dog" lo "Kentucky Rain". Tiiere are four LPs in this set if you can dig the king, this album is a classic. "Knsy Does It" Al Kooper (Columbia): (Co-lumbia): Al Kooper has done some amazing tilings, musically speaking, but he can also put out the trash, he kind of goes in cycles. Anyway, this two-record album is a reflection of one of his more enlightened periods. peri-ods. Sonic pretty good songs w i t h horn arrangements resembling BStT. "On the Viators" Bread (Elek-Ira): (Elek-Ira): The trio has added another member and conic up with some songs, harmony and arrangements which far surpass their first album (which was good also). Their current cur-rent single. "Make It With You should bring this underrated group a little of the recognition they deserve. |
