Show Letters that's Obscene -Scouts or Dope? played some remarkable ignor-annce ignor-annce on the latter, especially for one self labeled as a "34-year-old liberal". But, beyond this, he claimed support for the city of Murray's ban on all X-rated movies in drive-ins. Censorship, in any form, to me is totally restrictive re-strictive to human freedom. If Bill Timmins can decide to censor X-rated movies, then I wish to silence all preachers of god-talk, and, I will support immediate im-mediate censorship of all activities activi-ties relating to such myths as gods, which I find to be patently obscene. William S. Brown Editor: Regarding Timmins' letter to the Editor in Friday's, July 17th, Chronicle, obviously I missed the point. Which tradition did you insult, that of scouting or doing dope? Les Moore Resign, Mr, Timmins Editor: We just read Mr. Timmins' letter let-ter concerning the great Gilbert Shelton Freak Bros, cartoon. We're aghast that an Assistant to the Dean of a state university could label that cartoon as "insulting, "in-sulting, revolting, and patently obscene." It is insulting, revolting, revolt-ing, and patently obscene that Mr. Timmins, with his blind attitudes, atti-tudes, occupies such a position within the university family, and we demand his .immediate resignation, resig-nation, since a person of such attitudes at-titudes has no relevance within the university community and obviously ob-viously will be of little help in solving the problems so apparent on campuses across the nation which are rapidly destroying our mythical country. It is unfortunate that students on the campus are administered by individuals of such conservative conserva-tive and perverted mentality. As Eldridge says: "If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem." It is, therefore, obvious ob-vious that students on this campus must begin now to control their own educational destiny rather than be victimized by narrow, puritanical, and irrelevant college col-lege administrators. Off the pig administration. Right on Gilbert Shelton, S. Clay Wilson, and R. Crumb! In an attempt at-tempt to determine why, indeed, from this enlightened member of the university administration, I talked to Bill on the phone about it. He complained, he said, not about the cartoon's merit as a cartoon, but about the spread-legged spread-legged woman on the cover of a magazine, which made up, at best, about 1 percent of the cartoon's car-toon's total visual image. He must, I thought, have amazing powers of perception, since most people with whom I am acquainted acquaint-ed completely overlooked that small part of the cartoon. It was simply not the essence of its multi-faceted message anyway. I further gleaned that Bill appeared to be hung-up about nude bodies and sex in general, and he dis- |
