Show Doc Dirty holds out on ivatches ' Three ol four firms manufacturing manufac-turing Spiro Agnew watches and tee-shirts will give the vice president presi-dent a total of $25,000, on the insistence of Agnew's lawyers, for donation to families of prisoners of war in Indochina and aid for American Indians. The Dirty Times Co., maker of a Mickey Mouse style Agnew watch, has refused to participate in the vice president's private charity drive. Agnew's lawyers say the companies com-panies are using Agnew's name without his permission and threatened threat-ened legal action against them unless they turned over part of . their profits to Agnew for donation dona-tion to the two charities. The Varsity House, Inc., of Columbus, Ohio, makers of the Agnew tee-shirt, will kick in an initial $5,000 and donate two per cent of future profits. The novelty Watch Co., of Baltimore, Maryland, Mary-land, and the American Time Co., of Detroit, Michigan, both manufacturers manu-facturers of Agnew watches, will each give $10,000 initially and one dollar for each watch sold in the future. Hale Doughty, president of the hold-out Dirty Times Co., of Anaheim, Ana-heim, California, says he will give part of his profits to cancer research re-search but he will give nothing to Agnew becr-.use it "would be a recognition of the right of politicians politi-cians to control and therefore stifle political comment. I: would be inconsistent with the tradifcon and laws of our country as well as an abridgement of the constitutional con-stitutional guarantees of free speech." |
