Militants have spoken to us, plored, cried out for eentir What have we done to ah: poverty, injustice, cor'" Humorous Editor: There appeared in the Chronicle Chron-icle April 9, an article entitled "Coalition says: 'No free speech on campus'." I found it truly paradoxical par-adoxical and rather humorous to say the least. "The coalition's contention that iree speech doesn't exist on campus camp-us resolves around actions arising aris-ing from Jerry Rubin's speech, us revolves around actions aris-Challenge aris-Challenge Week's invitation to the San Francisco Mime Troupe and Mrs. Elena Dillon's address to Students for a Democratic Society So-ciety (SDS)." This statement in itself proves we have free speech. If we didn't have, these speakers would never have received the-chance the-chance to come on campus, let alone voice their opinions and sentiments. Free speech means just what it says freedom to speak. It doesn't does-n't say or imply freedom from consequences. This is the problem prob-lem bugging the coalition. They want the right to say anything or do anything they want, but they aren't "man" enough to face the consequences. Therefore they want the following demands met by the administration: 1) No speaker restrictions, 2) no literature litera-ture censorship, 3) no meeting restrictions. re-strictions. Actually, their demands are fine, but I don't feel they should be granted until 1) they can prove that they can abide by the present rules and regulations, 2) they live up to the responsibility they owe the University and community which tolerate them and 3) they live up to the responsibility they owe the studentbody, who share, very unfairly, the consequences brought on by their "sometimes very irresponsible" actions. Until the coalition, (SDS) and other such organizations meet the above listed obligations, I feel they have no right to even make demands on the administration and University. Any such demands de-mands made should be turned down. DAN VAN VLEET tvcii.y, injustice, corruption pression and cruelty?
