Show Letters to THE EdiTOR Laos conflict Editor: I was rather horrified to hear on the late news the other night that the United States State Department De-partment thinks that Laos may be even more valuable than Vietnam, and that steps should be taken to save that country from a possible communist takeover. There is a lot of possible argument about our evident "policy" in Southeast Asia, but I don't feel like flapping my gums about it. As a combat veteran of Vietnam 1 saw first hand our protection and salvation of Vietnam. A while ago, it seemed to us that Vietnam was the most valuable country over there, ergo the most in need of saving. It seems that since then someone gave a war, and lo, it doesn't seem so valuable any more. But Laos has lots of resources, re-sources, and is the rice bowl of Asia, etc. (sound familiar?). It really needs our saving it. Must we destroy every country that looks "valuable?" JOHN A.KESLER Brief footnote Editor: This is a brief footnote to a letter that Professors Phil Sullivan, Mike Rudick and myself sent to you yesterday. I have been in charge of the English Department's Depart-ment's Poetry series since Sept. and have never cleared a poet with the Student Affairs Committee. And I have never refused a room to hold a poetry reading in. JOHN VERNON Response Editor: In response to Miss Hammel's letter of March 4, it appears she has completely missed the point of Keuffel. Yes, Miss Hammel, all open-minded, open-minded, progressive, non-bigoted students would do well to boycott LDSSA and the Panorama Room until all Miss Hammels can be re-indoctrinated re-indoctrinated with love and brotherhood, vice, hate and bigotry. bigo-try. Miss Hammels of our society, minorities are not going to sit around an empty dinner table while you restle with your conscience. con-science. The time is long past due for you "to fight this institutional racism in ourselves." We're sick and tired of the racism which has been instilled in you from every institution which should have been preaching and teaching your Christian Brotherhood. We ask in the future that you throw meatballs rather than radiating radi-ating your subtle (and not so subtle) racist attitudes. The response re-sponse will be more immediate. ALEXANDER R.PUI A Letters should be addressed to the Editor, Daily Utah Chronicle, Union. Letters of any length will be accepted, however, a length of not more than 250 words is preferred. |
