Show Lighting problems now being remedied An editorial in the November 20 issue pointed out the lack of lighting on may areas of the campus. Specific areas which seemed to need the lighting the most were the intersection southeast of the Merrill Engineering Bldg. and west of the golf course and the walks around the Sports and Special Events Center. In noting that the parking problem was being improved, the editorial urged that something now be done to improve lighting conditions at the University. It was learned Thursday that lighting will now be installed at the intersection near the Engineering Building. Temporary lighting is also being installed around the Sports and Special Events Center in order to provide at least some light before the dedication of the building Friday night. This is especially important since many people who are unfamiliar with the area around the building will be walking there for the first time. Temporary lighting will also be installed around the Union and the Park Bldg. until the permanent lighting is installed. Future plans call for an extensive lighting program throughout the campus which will include both sidewalks and parking lots. It is good to know that the dark intersection near the Engineering Bldg. will soon be lighted and that at least temporary tem-porary lighting will be installed as a stopgap measure until permanent lighting can be installed by contractors. Those who have to walk on campus at night and those who have passed by the particular intersection will be greatful for the action to light potentially dangerous spots on campus |
