The Chronicle office was in- volved in the food drive by dis-j dis-j patching pickup crews to collect j food and other essentials for the j migrants. University students and ' other wnnlp ley came to the Chronicle office to volunteer to make pickups with i everything from a Volkswagen to 1950 Ford truck that had to be pushed to be started. Somebody in the valley, who felt tot after the migrants got the food they would need some way to bke care of it, called the office to wnate five refrigerators and a stove.
