Show Chairman announces April date Elections will dominate Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) activities in April. Tentative filing date for applicants is April 8-9; primaries are scheduled for April 22-23; and finals will be held April 29-30, said Heidi Sorensen, Elections committee chairman. A mandatory meeting for all candidates is scheduled for April Positions include president, vice president (if the April 2 referendum passes) Finance Board chairman and two members, Organizations Board chairman and 'wo members, Public Affairs Board chairman and two members, Programs Board chairman and two members, Campus Affairs chairman and two members (replaces Student-Faculty Board if referendum passes) and Academic Affairs Board Chairman and two members (replaces Student-Faculty Board if referendum passes). Finance Board Finance Board apportions ASUU funding; Organizations Board works with ASUU organizations; Programs Board directs ASUU programs; Academic Affairs Board would supervise campus events and organizations such as the Bookstore and elections. The chairman of Academic Affairs Board would serve as an ex -officio member of Faculty Council, said Miss Sorensen. M. The Associated Women Students (AWS) officers and senior class president will be elected at the same time, said Miss Sorensen. AWS officers include president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Applicants must be fully matriculated with a 2.0 gpa. They cannot be on scholastic or disciplinary probation, said Miss Sorensen. They must pay spring quarter tuition and ASUU fees. Requirements Miss Sorensen said that candidates for president must have 72 quarter hours, while senior class president candidates must have 90 hours but not more than 140. Hours limitations are not placed on candidates for other positions. Candidates need a $18 deposit and $2 filing fee, said Miss Sorensen. Presidential candidates will be allowed to spend $30 on their primary and $30 on their final campaigns. Other candidates will be allowed $20 on each 1 campaign. p Miss Sorensen said candidates will speak to major campus groups I from April 13-21. A sound-off with the candidates is scheduled for April 13 14 and 15 in the Union Ballroom. Last year 3,000 students voted, t said Miss Sorensen. "It was the largest total in the University history. We are going to try and I increase the number of student j voters by having booths in more central locations." Booths will be located in the Library and Union. Officers will be sworn in May 1. |
