Show Vincent says 4 Student government is not representative' By Julene Peden Staff Writer "The present form of student government is not representative," said Harris Vincent, Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) Programs Board member, Sunday. "We elect 16 people out of a studentbody of 16,000, granted only 4,000 of these vote, but there is still no recourse back to the students, they have no responsibility to the students who elected them." For this reason the ASUU Executive Council is forming a committee to study student government. The study was proposed by Vincent after he attended a National Student Association (NSA) Convention where student governments were studied and compared. Review Needed Said Harris, the present government is efficient, but it is three years old and a review is needed. The committee will consist of students, faculty and administration who will meet and review the present government and will submit a report to the I Executive Council by the end of the quarter. I When the constitution was written there was no proposal for an Advisory Cabinet in it, he said. It was added on the instigation of the administration when they -reviewed the new constitution for approval. It has never worked, said . Vincent. Its role is ill-defined in I the mechanics. One of the reasons a review is needed is to fine1 ti:t has broken down and recommend better function ' i r Administrative Work '.'ij; Vincent would like to ss government with admir.istn. officers consisting of a presi; and five vice presidents, er.cti 2 elected assistants, who voulc' the board openings.
