Show Thinclads Second At Arizona State The University of Utah track team was barely nosed out by Arizona Ari-zona State in an exciting triangular meet in Tempe Saturday night. The Ute thinclads scored 70 points to 77 for Arizona State and 33 for Northern Arizona. Ute Hugh Voorhees won the high hurdles in a 14.6 clocking and came back to place second behind Jim Hawkins in the 440 intermediate hurdles. Hawkins' winning time was 54.0. Bob Batie placed second in the 100, 4th in the triple jump, and was on the second place 440 relay team. Also starring for Utah was Ron Taylor who won the 440 in 47.6, and was on the winning mile relay team (3:15.3). Darryl Busby and Larry Stott also finished in t h e top four in the 440, and were on the mile relay team. Don Wassom won the broad jump and was third in the triple jump, while Marcel Chappius, 'Al Weed and Henry Groen finished one, two, three in the javelin. Other top placers for Utah were: Dwight Staten, 3rd in the shot putt; Gene Cabading, 2nd in the broad jump; Curt Dudnick, 4th in the broad jump and 4th in the discus-Frank discus-Frank Wojtech, 3rd in the 880; and Scott Bringhurst, 2nd in the 2-mile. |
